Agreed.
My point is 27k + 15k (not including all the other necessary upgrades like brakes and suspension) = a type 25 for the road + a very well sorted track car / trailer and a years worth of trackdays

depends whether u want 0-60 in the 3's or the 4's, or whether you want 0-100 in singles or doubles
opened up a can of worms this has LOL
<type 25 or rcms-that is the question>
Darren (proud owner of 2 litre japenese car compared by evo as in same league as 575 Maranello LOL )

I agree David - certainly one of the Skylines was up to about 600 or 700 bhp. A 1000 bhp wouldn't be impossible. Just a case of how long you want the engine to last . There are a couple of guys on Stuttgart 9s who used to be seriously into Skylines - they spent serious amounts of money on their cars.

Performance figures are excellent...especially for a blob-eye and that much ICE!!
What were your terminals when you were getting 11s quarters?
Rannoch
PS I agree with Wallis, it must be a Northern thing!! To say that RCMS is the best, at that price, without referencing any other builders is a little narrow. There are some superb guys out there that would build a very strong, reliable 400bhp plus Scooby engine at significantly lower cost.
However I have no idea what is included in the £15k quoted here, and what proportion is the build, versus ECU, turbo etc, so the comparison may be unfair.

0-60 in 3s, 0-100s in singles, £ks in singles too
New car = £500 for 60hp increase = £8.33per bhp. David(both), that more your Northern style?

Another way of thinking is you could buy a 01 UK STI for £15k, another £15k later you have a 400+ BHP car with some kind of engine guarentee.
So for £30k would you go for a 3 year old 40k mile bugeye with a rebuilt 400BHP engine, or would you go for a WR1, T20 or whatever?

Daz, As I mentioned above, it wasnt a dig at you or your car as overall it is superb, it is however a dig at the suppliers / engine builders who charge ridiculous amounts of money for building an engine. Dont get me wrong this is also not just in the Impreza scene it also happens in the EVO, Skyline, bike racing scenes as well. While we have people who continue to pay it, they will continue to charge it As David Wallis and Rannoch pointed out there are other outlets who will supply good quality parts at reasonable prices and there are some very good engine builders also, Rannochs & David Wallis's engines are proof of that My own personal thought is that for the £15k spent I would have been expecting more than the figures that RCM achieved with yours. When i did my STi8 I spent less than half that and I was only 60 hp down on the figures your car has achieved with plenty of scope and boost to come

For 15k though I assume you give RCMS an OE sti, then a week or so later you collect a 400+ monster. Everything is done by them, hence accountable by them.
Rather than getting an engine built by A
Turbo supplied by B
IC by C
exhaust / induction / other essentials by D, E and F
Fitted by G
Mapped by H
Try getting all that warrantied.....
Obviously people are willing to pay for the priviledge. And why not if you have that amount of money and you want it tomorrow.

What ur also forgetting here is this is all about newage impreza's, nothing to do with classics
how many new age have got to this performance in this country, remember.........
3.9 0-60
9.4 0-100
437 bhp
395 lb tq
all for 15k, I know there has been talk of 'it can be done for less', and also 'it's a lot of money',.........but who has actually done this yet and proved it apart from clark's
I think you'll find noone has
This car has been a test bed for rcms, because it was the first one they actually did
not being funny guys but there is a lot of talk here about who could and who can...............but who has and who has proved it
..................and if rcms and everyone else had their own way and I didn't have all the ICE in the car (equivalent weight to a grown man of 100kg sitting in the boot), how much faster would she be??
..............<relax now daz, you've got it off your chest>
sorry to ramble on, not wanting to upset anyone, just trying to explain further, by the way Rannoch, most i've had terminal speed is 119 mph , was thinking of stripping car for shootout, but realised this was just to please other people so didn't want to bother, plus................would have took **** loads of time and expense
Darren (should be on commision for matt & olly )

PPP, TSL, Powerstation and RCM have their own Niche's in the "Market Place" all aim for best reliabilty with power improvements and at differing costs.
MY04STi/WR1/T20-25/Type 'C' and Daz's RCM. are all wonderful cars
All will be Value for money if the owners are happy and the car's reliable VFM !!!
The next two statement's can be absolutely right and absolutely wrong !!!!!
"You only get what you pay for"
"Cheap and cheerful"
Crumbs sober when I wrote this I must drink more LOL

Daz,
pml!!!
Terminals are good. So far I have only managed 125mph, but that is with wheelspin in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and sometimes 4th!!
I am sure that with a little bit of practice it will get better.
But as you say for a lardy, blobeye with ICE it is a very respectable time.
In terms of comments about new-age and nothing to do with classics, in effect the engine is the same. Actually the real issue is whether you are happy, because the value of anything is what someone is happy to pay.

Its not a dig at you Darren, just friendly banter for another boring day at work.

Nice to see that the TSL car did so well considering there were so many threads on here a while back having a pop at them for quoting 333 etc.
I think im right in saying it won the section for mild modded cars ..... well done fellas

Darren (proud owner of 2 litre japenese car compared by evo as in same league as 575 Maranello LOL )
Having spent 15k on my own bugeye (all-in, not just engine mods) I can totally understand how it can be done, but the trouble with almost anything considered 'leading edge' is that it gets superceded for less money almost instantly.
I stopped work on mine because the Spec c was suddenly available, with dccd-a, trick geometry, twin-scroll, etc etc etc. and it was just pointless throwing any more cash at the car...

Cheers Gary.. It's nice to be able to prove what we already suspected. I'm sure there will still be some pointless threads written in future even though it's now been proven on a level playing field... but hey, that's the beauty of this so-called community eh? facts are seemingly irrelevant

i think you would find out that a so called 'monster' is still very driveable, that isn't how clarks do this conversion, they could of easily used a much bigger turbo on mine and made it 'evil', but it would be a pig to drive, you'd be surprised how tame mine is, read the article again, i think you would see that it was not as frightening as the writer thought - felt tame yet still produced the figures. He classed it as silky smooth and possibly disapointed that it didn't frighten him.
in RCMS defence, this is EXACTLY as they wanted, so it still felt 'nice to drive'
family car and beast in one, as he promised me to be fair to matt clark

Are some of the bigger Bhp cars people go on about daily drives, or set-up for the sprints?
Just wondered as i have seen daz in his numerous times driving about in the day.
Daz, hypothetically if you wanted a monster just for pod could you of got more out of it with a bigger turbo and re-mapped?

Great write up Don't drink to much before Japfest LOL
Daz,
It certainly pulled very well and you haven't lost too much power making it drivable

could of put much bigger turbo on, but, more lagg, and when comes on boost halfway round bend
i wanted bigger turbo, antilag, monster, matt told me 'shut up you tart, you sound like a ****', he was right, i am so i didn't. Then told bob wanted antilag, got similar reply and realised 'give in you know it makes sense'.
matt doesn't call normal customers a **** by the way, i get on with him quite well
he does think i'm a tart though, but realised that trouser is a bigger tart with a capital T (paul, you know u r a tart )

anyway, IMHO I think tsl resulted in good write up for 'normal' money, RCMS if you want a 'BIG BOY'
good feature on tuners i think you'll all agree,.....and i know you'll agree on the trouser/tart issue
....................anway, this really hasn't got to the main issue, who wants to buy a 437bhp monster in wrc blu........................
