Any update on this?

I've just taken delivery of an 04 STi and it too bounces all over the place. I replaced the standard wheels with 18" Turinis which did help a bit, but after being home for 15 mins I can still feel the bouncing sensation!

I was thinking that the Prodrive springs would help but it looks as though there is something more seriously wrong.

425 miles and I'm sick of it...

Talking just an idea

I asked which and he said he couldn't remember and it had now been sold, but Prodrive springs should do the trick. So we fork out another £400 for the springs and the car comes back still bouncing like crazy over any undulations.

Get told that it is a characteristic of the car and we'll get used to it. Since then have added Prodrive 18" wheels as people told me this would make it better and it has, but only a little. Have now lived with it for 6 months and tried to ignore it, but whilst giving my mother a lift in the car the other day she commented how bad it was and you know what she's right.

I'm not going to put up with it any more so what suspension kit do I need to sort it out properly. If I can't find a solution it's going as if I wanted a rollercoaster ride everytime I drive I'd work in Blackpool wouldn't I? Please don't tell me it's not that bad as when you have to travel 60 miles on the M60 round Manchester everyday you'll soon change your tune.

Sugegstions are most welcome - thanks in advance.

tiggers.

And what does converting to JDM spec entail and how much cash are we talking?

Another solution is AST? suspension as fitted to the Type 25. PowerStation in Cheltenham (who helped develop the Type25) fit it and will be able to tell you about it and give you a quote. I believe it costs around £750 probably excluding fitting. It is susposed to give better handling and a more compliant ride than the standard set up.

This is a known problem and has to do with the angle of the rear damper in relation to the suspension arms. It needs some force to work properly because the top mount is too soft. Before that, it just bounces around on the top mount. It's easy to tell because when you cruise around, the car hops all over the place, but when you drive it hard it's ok.

My preferred solution would be to change the suspension to one with rigid (preferably metal) top mounts, ie Cusco or better, as suggested.

Is tiggers still here or has he sold the damn thing?

Hi Claudius

Where did you get the info from?

My car is going in to the dealer on Friday for a service where they'll take a look at it and then I'm going to Scoobyclinic to see what they say. If I can get it sorted without messing about I'd be pretty happy

Cheers
Andy

The guy from my local competition suspension specialist shop told me that; they have lots of people with competition suspension (Proflex, Öhlins, etc.) that complain about it, as more rigid dampers increase that phenomenon.

I mentioned it in that Damian Harty thread last year, maybe a search would turn it up? To cut a long story short, though, Damian Harty agreed with the guy from my suspension shop that rigid rear top mounts would solve the problem / make things better as metal top mounts will not flex and therefore tend to force the damper to work (move).

As a side note, I drove my brother's STI 7 for quite a few miles and have to agree with the comment above that the rebound setting is very loose in both the front and the rear. It wasnt jumping much, though. Not tried an STI 8 yet.

read this thread with interest I have an MY02 sti and am looking to put the Prodrive springs onto it.

However at the moment the car handles gr8. the biggest effect was a PROPER geometry set up not one done by halfrauds or the like

I just hope that putting the Prodrive springs onto it won't cause it to "bounce".

Surely this bouncing isn't common to all sti's

suggestion lets start a comparison regaring cars etc

i'll start off

MY02 sti standard suspension bridgestone tyres 17" wheel NO prodrive springs

After reading so many issues in Nasioc some ideas that could help you solve the problem:
-Hardened top mounts and slightly stiffer springs as mentioned above.
-Lowered springs that help the damper to work in his "efficient" area.
-Tires with stiffer sidewalls - strange but true - help solve the first suspension "refusal".
I an mot an expert nor own a STI but hope this helps you all with your suspension problems...

If you got loads to spend my mates just put Tein active suspension on, cost just under 2k (fitted at Graham Goode's), lowers the car about 50mm and is fully adjustable from inside the car electronically. Settings from 1-16 by push button, fitted where the clock is. I drove the car before and after and I was truly astonished at the difference. He is finally happy with the MY03 drive.
