Dave,
Thanks mate. Much appreciated.
I've read a few reports, including magazine reports, that says that Gems aint to hot during idle, we'll need to wait and see.

What benefit would the fuel cut on overrun give me ? Can anyone explain ?

Thanks

Lamda 1 is 14.7 (assuming you are using petrol.)

To dispel the urban myth comment i made yesterday with regard to GEMS, i spoke to Steve this morning and if you buy the software/dongle/lead from GEMS, this *will* allow you to do anything you want with the map should you wish to do so.

The reason for the considerable price for the above parts are because it not only allows you to see the map on your own ecu, but also anybody elses such as an EVO etc.

In respect to the issue with my car, it would appear there was an unfortunate mystery in that E-mails i had sent to Steve did not reach him, so with that in mind, there would be no way he could give me a response if he didn't know!

These mails were sent after i had been having difficulty in contacting him by phone. A situation in that because i had the same scenario every time i phoned (it went to voicemail and when he phoned back my phone showed this up as a missed call, wouldn't ring out ), i gave up trying to communicate that way and resorted to Email, but Cyberspace has let me down.

My failing in this situation is that i had been leading myself by assumptions, not helped by listening to other peoples comments, so I put two and two to make 5!

Despite all this though, the good news is i get the necessary bits i need on Friday, so will have a better idea with what's going on with the car after then.

Unfortunate set of circumstances and i'm writing this to publicly apologise to Steve if i've caused him any inconvenience. S'funny how circumstances outwith your control can allow things to snowball.

On my own car i haven't had an issue with starting or idling, hot or cold since the GEMS was fitted. Would be surprised if you have the same when yours is done.

Only tip i can give there is that when Steve turns up, make sure the car hasn't been started at all from the night before as you really only get one shot at getting the cold start right. This is what we did with mine.

Yes he is. Don't imagine it would take too long though.

Cold start is a fickle thing. Even if you start it up when cold and switch off a few seconds later, you can lose the opportunity to get it as close to where it needs to be.

I don't see you having a problem with it though, as experience through mapping gives you the info you need to better each car as you go along.

If you look at the Link for example, years ago there were threads about poor cold starting, hot starting etc. All these have been ironed out now through experience by the mappers and from my experience with the Link, my car started as good as the std ECU, only difference was you had to wait for the fuel pump to cut off after priming which was no big deal.

My cold start was done after a drive from glasgow to englandshire, and is pretty much spot on (have to give it a bit of throttle). Hot starts are perfect every time.

Johnny50, the fuel cut was because personally i was getting a few bottom greens on the knocklink on the over run after wot. I don't see any benifit in having fuel on this high up, only lower down to make it smooth around the town, which it certainly is. Bore wash was also mentioned here (and for that reason i now cringe at the 'pop pop splutter' whe running around the town). I actually had a lot of fuel in on the over run since my car was shutting down very harshly round the town.

David, It wasn't the actual lamda value i was worried about, it was the fact that the light stays on steadily, which it only normally does after say 25% throttle.
