its deffo a gr8 filter and thanks to john's advice regarding "rotating" the filter it's now an even better proposition.
I went out in my car again last nite and boy you can really hear this "fluttering" sound, hopefully nothings going wrong the cynical side of me is always nagging LOL
should i have done it, then i think cause u should you know it makes sense

oh yessss!! read my post again, i have noticed a difference going from an ITG(allegedly high flowing) air filter to this sti one, the ITG is better than standard, this one is just another step up again IMHO
Edited to include :- im sure Bob Rawle did a test and got 10bhp MORE by fitting this filter over a std paper one, that was ona JDM car tho if my memory serves me right

you can buy this from BR Developments as well as Scoobymania now. If you read Bob Rawles thread in the projects forum you can see the sort of performance it is capable of in his STi9.

I've got one in my car now aswell. Price from Japanparts will depend on exchange rate. Mine ordered a couple of weeks ago was just over £40 (all in, delivered - took about a week to arrive). Out of interest I had been running an ITG (for 50K+ miles) with no ill effects. I needed to change so the STI one seemed the most sensible choice. I'm sure that a lot of the problems relating to oiled filters haave come when they are cleaned and re-oiled (not all I'm sure). Perhaps people are being a little too generous with the oil?

My ITG filter was "as it wzs put in by TSL" ie original never been re-oiled and had been in about 8000 miles it was put in about 14 months ago......

To to add a bit regarding MAF sensors and oiled filters. Using a K&N should be fine in most circumstances, as they retain the oil well compared to a foam filter.
The most vulnerable MAF used on the Impreza is in the MY99/00 (the last of the classic shape, this includes the STi5/6). The earlier hot wire Maf is less easily damaged and the new age car has a new MAF design again, which apears to be stronger/less easy to contaminate. If you have an MY99/00 i would advise you avoid induction kits/oiled filters if you are retaining the use of the MAF. Even with dry filters, the MAF sensor on the MY99/00 does get tired, it's well worth changing this at 50K miles and treating it as a service replacement part. They cost around £80 if you buy the MAF sensor on its own.

On the Japanparts website there is only a section for WRX 1992-2000. Will the STI air filters fit a UK turbo MY00?
I'm pretty sure they are the same air boxes but don't want to order something that's no use to me.

I have a 00my and fitted my STi p/f about a month ago. Having been initially cautious there is a definate increase in horsepower. Obviously we are talking between 5-10 bhp max. together with a noisier spool up / induction noise, but it deffinately pulls harder at high revs.
Needless to say its a pretty good investment, and so far according to my boost gauge everything is as normal. I'd recomend it to anyone. I'm also looking to go for TEK3 at the end of the year for which i believe the filter can give significant benefits.

These aint cheap items but they are good
I gained over 10bhp and upto 15lbs of torque on the rolling road, within a couple of mins of fitting, should have taken John's advice ages ago me thinks

it certainly made a difference to my MY02sti im sure it would make a difference to you 03WRX but how much i couldnt say......
its better than standard and safer than oily ones go for it you wont be dissapointed

Garycat it does make a small difference but not that noticable. I think this is down to the bird feathers and general crap that was in the original one after 15k so it was bound to feel better. My car is also fited with PPP
