I'm afraid Clio sport is littered with people sniffing funny substances. I have to keep pinching myself. People decat cars and add an ECU and think they have a car that would give a McLaren F1 a hard time. Most have never driven a proper performance car from what I can see.
I drive a Clio 182 and they are seriously slow compared to 99% of the Scoobies out there. My old Clasic MY00 with 10 miles on is the only car it would stand a chance against. People will quote 0-100 etc, but it day to day driving that counts - the Clio is pants for power then.
In day to day driving you have to treat the car harder than an Iraqi prisoner of war if you want any go. The power band is narrower than Kate Moss's wrist.
They do handle damn well and are great fun. Probably the ultimate hot hatch - I love mine, but it a league and a half below a Scoob.

Standard Clio Cup against an Impreza. No Chance! My house mate has one and I've driven it HARD! Very nice car and very good handling but not a chance against a well driven Impreza!!

dunno what them guys are on but a standard clio cup against a 280bhp STi...... i dont think so! the guy may of been in the later stages of breaking it in, ie taking it to 4000/5000k or something
for all the people taking the p1ss saying 'my cars faster than your car' etc why read a thread just to slate it??? i think comparing car speeds to other's in the real world is quite interesting, if you dont like the thread start your own incredibly interesting one.

Sti is a different story.
Owned both - and I still think the Clio is quicker around a track/nurburgring - I will be testing this theory during June! If anyone is wanting to do a test, let me know.

Also owned both. Along some of the back roads here in North Wales, I reckon that my standard Clio 172 is about the same speed overall as my 1997 5 door Scooby with 247BHP prodrive upgrade. The main difference is in the driving not in the speed. It was much easier and less scary in the Scooby. The Clio is a superb little car and great fun. Needs to be ragged though. Lift off oversteer is never very far away!! Overall I would choose the Scooby, but don't knock the 172. Anyway tomorrow my WR1 turns up after a long wait, (owned it for a month but not had it yet!!) so I'll let you know what that's like against a clio, especially on very tight twisty back roads. Would like to have a go with a Cup sometime though.
