! can a 2 litre do that? Thanks David, a cutter and a drill is cheaper than a set of headers.Especially when the head gaskets have just gone...
While you are on David, can you change the head gaskets without removing the engine?
Thanks'

Hi,

I am also going to buy some gruppe-s headers. Has anyone had any problems fitting them to a H+S 2" solid up-pipe? They have not answered my email yet.

George

Hi George

We haven't recieved any e-mails from you regarding the up pipe,if you pm me i will answer it straight away.

Sorry Scoobyexhausts, that was meant to say Gruppe-s aren't answering e-mail. Have been using your up-pipe for a while now with no problems at all.

David,

Why do you recommend staying with the standard headers? I have also ported them myself.
This is the proposed set up

550 inj
Uprated pump and reg
APS FMIC
old style ss/h+s 2.5" system inc up pipe
TD05/06 20g
Gruppe-s headers
Re map by PE via Chiptorque ecu board (allready fitted, 98 uk car)

I have been advised that I would need the headers to get anywhere near the 400 mark @ 1.4 bar.Standard ported ones would require more boost which may be to much for my standard engine

Still unsure, headers or no headers? Help!!!!!

Thanks

George

GB we are all in the same boat! DB5 is there too...
There are a lot of Groppe headers out there it seems, but the version 2 (current design) are better. Seems to me you need to watch the up-pipe as much as anything else for leak free reliability.
Got to do my leaking head gaskets first...

We only make the up-pipe with a double slip joint in,this moves very slight with the heat expansion and as far as i am aware i haven't heard any problems with gaskets blowing. We have been making quite a few spacer plates for the gruppe-s up pipes to try to eliminate the problem.I think this was Harvey answer to his problem.

George,

I am using v2 Gruppe-S headers (cast collector) with the older H&S solid uppipe and have had no problems at all, fit was perfect from the outset. Only thing I have done (like many others) is to only fit 1 of the turbo to engine/gearbox brackets to allow a little more movement.

IMHO the advice about using turbular headers to achieve your goal (~400bhp@1.4bar) is correct.

Is it a straight forward job to port the OE headers yourself? Or is there someone supplying them already done?

Andrew,

Thanks for that, I think i will give them a go.

Orange,

I ported my own standard headers using a small grinding wheel in the fastest speed power drill I could find, took a while but done the job. It is recomended that you use a die grinder and TCT cutter. When you remove the standard headers and have a look it becomes obvous what you have to do.

There is a few photos and a thread on here somewhere which explains things in more detail.

George
