Cool

In a rather bizarre twist to the sudden rise in English patriotism for Euro 2004, loads of cars where I live have started to do the same with Welsh flags on cars. What the **** is that all about?

We ain't in the tournament (probably never will be ), so is it just a pathetic attempt to try and get noticed?

Well, thats taken nearly an hour to read through and I feel obligated to comment on my observations, while the Scots are talking about the England "football team" the English seem hell bent on personal and bordering on racist attacks on the Scottish people in general, with taunts about "jocks" and "skirts" and England owning Scotland and numerous other remarks, and then acuse the Scots of being racist for not supporting "their" football team? I find this totally distastefull and in fact probably demonstrates why the Scots are not supporting England in Euro 2004 more than anything else, in fact I think you would find if Wales or Ireland were in it they (we) would have no problem supporting them whatsoever. Would Liverpool/ Everton/ Arsenal/ Chelsea fans be cheering on Man U if they got further in UEFA? No didn't think so, it's exactly the same,

No, I'm not sure I know either, nothing more complicated than a liking for jaffa cakes at school and according to a mate back then "a heid shaped like an orange"

In order to improve national relations within our mighty isle, might I politely suggest the English remove the words 'crush the rebellious Scots' from the English/British national anthem? It really isnt the language of diplomacy and unity (although it probably sounds great on the terraces )

Also that bit in the seventh vers about 'building more castles to wind up the sh-ee-ee-p sh-a-ggers' might also, by now, be more diplomatically put?

I'm sure doing this would make 'Britishness' an individual reality and not simply an enforced political concept, vestigial from the days of empirical plundering! It would also surely ensure 'homeland' harmony and an extra 14,000,000 union jack waving supporters during England matches. Engerland surely deserves the support of their funny homegrown foreigners from the cold tartan north and the sheep hugging west!!! Mates now? ?

Jaf01uk - Are you on drugs ?

Diablo's original post started off OK and pretty much as you suggest but it then went on to basically blame the way that the scots behave today is based on the fact that they perceive themselves as being ruled by South East England.

He then said

"For these reasons, and predominantly the perceived arrogance, to fly the St George’s cross in Scotland (either from a car window or, as with my parents neighbours last night, to hang an England flag which fills the living room window) is almost seen as insulting to many Scots. It almost might as well say “F*ck you” "

Which translates to "You can be English in Scotland so long as you keep quiet about it"

Kinda set the tone for the rest of the thread !

ps How do you feel about all the RAF boys nicking the local girls in Elgin ???

pps Diablo was only trying to explain why you lot feel so inadequate - it's not his (or your) fault

Jasey, you obviously know my location and as such will surely understand that we have probably the highest concentration of English in britain outside England itself and as a result we dont have any problem with the English up here or they with us, and very few fights (even when sharing a pub watching an England match) It's not the posts that you mention above it's the other 10 pages where it degenerated into personal attacks on Scots as mentioned in the post I made earlier, at no point in the 11 pages did I spot personal attacks on the English people only the football team (I may have missed some to be fair)
I dont understand the am I on drugs part, and no I dont have a problem with the RAF cracking onto local women

Not so, just one of the problems

He then said

Taken a bit out of context. Its not about keeping quiet, its about understanding the culture in which you live. Make as much noise as you like, but don't expect us to like having it rubbed in our faces. It is as much the attitude behind the flags, as the flags themselves. In the example I gave the individual in question is an arrogant middle aged tosser who thinks all Scots are pond scum. (and its a nice area). With that kind of person as an ambassador for all things English is it any wonder. In my experience and those of friends and colleagues (of all nationalities) most of those who drape their (Scottish) houses out in the St George's cross are of a similar arrogant up themselves nature - just like we see on the TV at any sporting tournament.

Kinda set the tone for the rest of the thread !
I disagree

Jaf01uk / Diablo

I hate the fat middle aged English tossers that come up here and whinge about how cold it is, don't like the pubs and think that All Scots are Pond life too.

I also hate w@nkers like Ron Atkinson / John Motson and the tw@t on channel 5.

I'm not over keen on English pissheads rioting in Portugal.

I also aint too impressed when total strangers come up to me when I'm trying to enjoy a loud night out and tell me to "**** off home you English ****".

I also thought that Maggie Thatcher had more ***** than any male prime minister since Winston Churchill and had an unhealthy dislike for the Scots.

Do I use any of these the slag off the entire English or Scottish Nations, all footbal commentators, all fat english tossers, young men or Ugly bints - No.

I take every person I meet as I find them - If everyone else did the same then the World would be a much safer place.

Now **** of jockies and go do some work .

Jye - the "I take every person I meet as I find them" doesn't apply to Tims

Lynne, a jaffa? Hmm let me see, well it could mean, 'just - another - f*cking - faggy - ***- retard', or 'just-another-fat-f*cking-American', but who am I to use such derogatory terms on this forum

In this particular context though I'm leaning more towards a protestant who is very bitter and is someway involved with the orange order, a jaffa
