NEW WR1 BBS
#31
Nick ... a WR1 is very different to a standard STI. Centre Diff, Prodrive Suspension package, uprated PPP etc. Not to mention the power and torque
IF you chuck all that stuff onto a standard STI it's no longer a standard issue Subaru - warranty void modded motor.
The WR1 bbs was set up as a knowledge pool and area for the owner to share information. To do it on here means loads of w@nkers flaming the car and divulges from the point. which I fear is what you are doing

I'm not flaming the car mate, I'm poking fun at the elitist owners. I find that the elite don't like having fun poked at them.

if its technical contribution you want, thats what 22b.com is there for.
It was set up before scoobynet 2 never mind scoobynet 3 and has about 15 22b owners out of 3500 or so registered members, with a core fo about 200 regular posters. Kind of like the way this place used to be before the impreza got so popular.
It was never about elitism, it is about concentrating the knowledge of those who have posted on here over the years into one place that is more likely to give you the answer you are looking for.
(nearly) everyone on 22b.com is also a scoobynet member and we have done our best to support eachothers forums through the years, there is enough traffic for both, and certainly enough demand for both.
I can't speak for the other bbs' but I can say that if they are anything like 22b.com their existence should be encouraged as it tends to concentrate knowledge, rather than dilute it, and knowledge is the reason for 22b.com's existence, so that can't be a bad thing.

oh, and there is no ultimate impreza, only one that is more suited to your needs than another.
Out of the box, the type 25 would certainly be my preference, but tghen I have always been against the way the UK market has been conned out of excess money in return for inferior products (previously no dccd) and no 2.5 sti. That said, I will stick with a lowly sti 4 thank you very much.

You can tell your not in Marketing
Dccd - yes the UK has just got it. I look at this as product lifecycle. Give the punter all the goodies in year 1 and what need is there for them to change a year or so later. The STI buyer especially is gadget orientated and needs the latest. Most other manufacturers follow this model. Japan just has a different market dynamic
2.5 - you know that it wont pass emissions. The UK does not represent the entire Subaru market in Europe - therefore getting it through needs a few more parties to tango - hardly IM's fault.
Maybe we will see this in a year or so to stimulate sales ?
PPP - IM are very forward looking. Not all European markets support aftermarket mods, which is essentially what a PPP is. How many other manufacturers in the UK support remaps and exhaust changes ? - ans not many.
IM are not perfect - supply chain seems very dated.
Cheers

californean emissions regulations are way ahead of the rest of the world, in fact they are a guide to where we will be in a few years time. I dont think they are legal requirement in the US yet but are you sure that the US sti's emissions are higher than those of europe but I don't believe that to be true.
#40
if they are doing their best for product cycle, then why has the US gone from 2.5 na to 2.0 wrx to 2.5 sti?
surely there being a much bigger market there, they had far more potential to make proper money by doing the same thing, but they didnt.
Why do we always come out worse off?

I think it's excellent
Hopefully now that the WR1 BBS is up and running we won't have so many smug 'The WR1 is the best thing since sliced bread' posts on Scoobynet from those self-absorbed individuals who seek to devalue every other impreza ever built / owned (you know who you are).

If there isnt a problem with the 2.5, why dont people like Iain import 2.5's, rather than doing an engine transplant ? (its either emmisions or no RHD 2.5 anywhere in the world)

There has not been one single thread that starts off with, "Hey, every other Impreza is crap next to the WR1.", but there has been dozens that go like this:
1) Does anyone know how long it takes to get a WR1?
2) Why would you want to buy such a crap car? The P1/Type 25/Spec C is much better. You're just a loser who believes IM's marketing crap. Haha, didn't you watch Top Gear?
And somehow from that you form an opinion that WR1 owners are smug and self-absorbed? Try pissed off and disappointed in the sniping from other so called enthusiasts in the community. And as for devalueing other Imprezas, all we've heard is how the WR1 isn't worth 30K 'cos it's just an STi with a crap paint job. Get a grip - what forum have you been reading mate?
I don't have a WR1 (yet), but I really feel for the people who have paid out their hard earned only to come here and have their pride and joy slated by people who are not even in a position to hold a valid opinion. I don't have a P1/22B/Spec C/RB5 either, but I would feel the same way if they were on the wrong end of such a bunch of crap as well.

Re: all the WR1 bashing
I would'nt worry. It was just the same when the P1/RB5 came out. It either springs from jealousy to people's over optimistic hopes being quashed(2.5l, DCCD 400 Bhp, ATD suspension) etc etc and then taking it out on people who have bought the car.

You need to be seen to be out doing your neighbours here and a German car on the drive is better for your social standing.
Also the Guy who owns the Subaru Franchise in Germany is some Swiss idiot who is not interested in the cars hence why there are no aftermarket approved parts here. or decent cars. The impreza is sold here but it is not on Subarus marketing plan, they are more into pushing teh Forester and the Legacy. But we still don't get the decent versions of them either.
Subaru GmbH is 50% owned by Fuji Heavy Industries and 50% by this Swiss idiot and he seems to have more of a say in the company than Fuji do.

Yeah Scooby ... 500 people would just go out and spank 30K on a motor just because the paint-job is nice. They would never think of test driving or looking into it thoroughly would they!! No that would be silly wouldn't it!!!!
I know that before I bought mine I test drove an EVO FQ300, STI PPP and a WR1 equivalent STI PPP with the WR1 map and uprated handling package!!
Since it was released a whole new breed of w@nkers has materialised from nowhere on here to just slate everything about it and flame every thread about the car. None of these people have driven one so are mostly bitterly jealous!

You claim to know dozens of owners, not only that but you know for sure they had all seen the car before they bought one?
Did you all hire a coach out for the day trip to Brum? PMSL

It seems as if everything that can be bitched about the car has been said god knows how many times and ppl are now turning their attention onto the owners .
The amount of slagging the car has received Im surprised WR1 owners haven't been more on the offensive on here, so how they have drummed up so much anti emotions within certain circles in the community I really don't know
There's been no:
[QUOTE] My WR1 is faster than yours etc [QUOTE]
Or any on the offensive, car related threads that I have read or can recall.
Please quote them if you have.
Feckin hell, I doubt much over half the cars have reached the owners so how we can be stereo typed already is laughable.
I know this has been said b4 but if you have just bought a new motor and ppl start slamming it when in reality they don't even have a branch to sh*t off, wouldn't you defend it? A fer few of the WR1 owners also seem to be new to this bbs as-well, so may not be upto speed with bbs etiquette/ trolling etc and thus should be given a bit of leeway and humility Imo. nice and friendly here init
I do admit all these WR1 threads are getting tiresome, but that isn't just the owners, or the cars fault is it?
Sorry about the ramble, just had a bad incident with a feckin nova:angry: had to get some thing of the chest...
Nice one ImprezaWR1, I'll be signing up.
BTW I'm a life long Everton Fan and Roonaldo is going no were!

I don't why I'm getting drawn into this again.
I think things would be simpler if whenever someone considers writing something pointless or derogative about a car, or its owner, that they just don't bother. That way nobody gets called a mindless troll, nobody gets provoked, nobody has to rise above it, bite their tongue, respond aggressively, etc., etc.
Just my tuppence for a more harmonious world.
Cheers.
