My GF is getting a coil fitted for similar reasons - she has strokes in the family and apparently the pill does not help her cause, it also makes her more bonkers than usual depending on which pill she is on.
my advice: get her off the pill, declare an alergy to condoms, then take the brown option for 2 months while the coil settles.

There have been cases of suicide and mental problems with ex users of Roacutane. There are side effects whilst using the drug (hair loss, severe dryness of lips and the inside of the nose ect) but at the end of the day, it is a cure and well worth the "risk".

Blood tests are carried out on a regular basis to keep a careful watch on possible liver/ kidney problems. I reckon that the depression and suicide problems are not directly caused by the drug, but by the devasting effects that a serious acne problem can cause on a teenager who is growing up in an "image is everything" world.

Before even considering Roacutane a person should read the side effects leaflet; the possible effects are terrifying; far worse than the acne itself in most cases. The side effects that you will certainly suffer are bad enough. Its not really correct to state that Roacutane is a certain cure either; in lots of cases it reduces rather than cures completely.

A 2nd course was not advised by the GP instead she gave her 2 creams that she'd used previously (as a teenager) with little or no benefit and on a closer inspection of the 2 medicines it clearly states that the 2 should NOT be used together
A 2nd course of Dianette was not ruled out.
Thanks for all the suggestions of the various antibiotics (from mostly guys... ) she did ask the doc about the various suggestions (especially Minocyline), I'm sure this would help but there are complications re the pill's effectiveness.
Even my offer of the snip won't take her period pain away

Manuka honey has been ordered mate....thanks for the advice. It seems a better bet than putting all that burning chemical **** all over your face

If Roacutane ain't working then she will less success with other treatments I guess, Roacutane is the most powerful acne treatment I think...
Otherwise she can try Dalacin T which isn't bad....
I think vitamin E is supposed to be good for the skin, not too sure about acne but drinking plenty of water is good for the skin in general...
you can get a few less harsher treatments from places like the bodyshop or Holland and Barratt I know they sell Vitamin E cream and wheatgerm oil etc...
I think health and fitness magazine have a forum you can read and it has a BB on there full of useful info......
also check out www.acne.org or summat along the lines of....

Treatment aside - this is a serious point. The GP AND Pharmacist should both be reported if they have prescribed and supplied medicines that are contraindicated.
It literally states must not be taken in conjunction with benzoxyzxyz@lamidexyz and the other tube states main active ingredient benzoxyzxyz@lamidexyz.... amazing
I appreciate that the book of the GP won't cross reference every active ingrediant but you'd think that they'd have a chance of spotting the main active ingredient
Cheers

was one of them benzoyl peroxide?
If so it is a fairly strong oxidising agent (like hydrogen peroxide) so it is likely that it would break down another preparation if they were mixed which is probably the main reason it says not to be used in conjunction.
How did the doctor tell her to use it? Using on alternate days, for example, may be perfectly acceptable if they are not mixing. She should ask her Doc for clarification!

benzoyl peroxide?
The very one mate... no wonder I failed my chemistry higher
The doc was contacted today and said that there is NO problem with using the 2 together as one (think it's possibly the Dalacin T) is an antibiotic wash and the other is a cream (even although it states on the label that the 2 should not be mixed)
I'm a bit confused mate... but hopefully my GF can make more sense of all of this.
She seems to be familiar with nearly everything that has been mentioned on here and has in fact been treated with Roacutane twice (and still alive )
Thanks again for all the really helpful advice given on this thread ..
