On the subject of being a Tubby, there is no reason why you cant be happy, I just go by the fact that when I am slimmer I feel better, more confident, wear better clothes (ie.e not baggy) and am more outgoing.

Oh and your **** doesnt get as sweaty in the summer.

Good luck !

yes it will help.

however.. in order to lose fat, you need a calorie deficit. as soon as you take a calorie deficit, you will lose some muscle too.

lifting heavy will help.. but expect to lose some strength and lean mass.

it's easy to get back when your diet is over however, due to muscle memory.

4 miles shouldnt be a challenge at 18

I dragged my bike out the other day, haven been on a road bike since I was your age (when I got a car) and did 15 miles quite easily, not going to win the tour de France but didnt suffer any ill effects other than growing what I can only describe a 'Labia' around my **** bones (yes there are bones in there). You cant wait to get a car when you are 18, its so fantastic you forget that cycling was pretty good as well.

Poor guy - in all seriousness, what's your real weakness? Assume you've only been drinking beer for a year or so, so wha'ts got you to 18 stone besides that?

hmmmmmmmmmmmm, ive just checked the scales. im 16.6 stone. wheres that 1.4 stone since february gone? must be walking to and from my car (which is a mile from school).

trouble is i like making good food. I watch Hugh Fearnly Whittingstall too much and have picked up on his not so healthy type of cooking. Butter here, chicken stock there, salt and half a pig and the rest.

lack of excercise too.

Try the FB plan - like Atkins with no fat - pure protein - I am 6 ft and usually about 13 ish stone, but I can drop a stone in a week no bother. Eat as much as you want - 10 scrambled eggs for brekkie, steak for lunch, grilled chicken for afternoon snack, poached salmon for tea, another (lean) steak for dinner and maybe makrel or tuna for supper. -

btw - No beer = 2lb a week weight loss.

Damn thats pretty heavy ..

Im about 12 ATM but if I get to 12.5 I start running and eat potato cakes, seriously, (6 potato cakes in a day fill you up!) I am down to 12 in a week.

If you start to get exercise the fat will just drop off.
Stop drinking so much as well!!

If you are 12 that would be illegal, but I am certain that you are 4, so it will be illegal for a long long time

I haven't read all the replies, so forgive me if I repeat everyone else, but I put on a lot of weight after i hurt my back in a car crash a few years back, basically I didn't change my diet when I was inactive, and before I knew it I was fat, and still struggle to keep it off having been quite trim into my early twenties.

By your post, you know what you need to do, you list the food cause you know thats the problem, obviously, and you don't excercise in the week. You've answered your own question, balance your diet, eat what you can burn off and get running, swimming, lifting weights (muslce burns fat) and eating smaller portions more often.

Once you get into it (at first it is boring and labourious) it will become as much fun as sitting on the sofa watching the telly with a pastie.

And you'll feel better, too.

Or go to Ibiza for a month, get a drug problem, dance 18 hours a day and forget to eat.

Dude, I will get flamed for this but seriously, take up smoking. It really decreases your appetite. I would not give this advice to anybody but whilst you are only 18 its ideal. Proper research has shown that if you give up smoking by the age of around 21-22 it will have no lasting damage on your lifespan and by the time you are middle aged all associated health risks will be the same as someone that never smoked. Infact probably (just guessing now, no associated research) better than someone who has been 18 stone and growing since a teenager.

In fact - the quickest proven way to lose weight is to commit suicide by throwing yourself in a sausage making machine - scooby dick - if someone steals your scoob what will that make you?

I lost about five stone in 6 months with regular 1 1/2 - 3 mile runs, cutting down on beer and not over-eating. I've put a stone on since then with weights, but I look and feel fitter than I have done for twenty years.

Possibly, but probably in the same way that 2 grammes of base and 32 hours of not eating or sleeping does.
Seriously mate, cut out the alcohol and all the fatty crap that you eat and the weight will come off.
If you dont do it soon you'll be huge for the rest of your life, which could be not as long as you think due to health problems from being that big.

Poor guy-you're 18, my friends seem to have gone through the same thing with weight gain as soon as we started going to college. They started going to the pub at lunch time and in the evening we'd go out. It's no surprise that the heavier drinkers among us are now quite overweight! My best friend was always a size 6 (b!tch ) and now she is bigger than me and im 5 months preggy!! Alcohol and munchies-not good for waistline! I would say cut out all alcohol for a couple of weeks and see how you feel. I'm not saying give up totally but 20pints a week and you wonder why you can't lose weight?

I would save your money!! Get into a team sport or something, then it becomes social and you get fitter! Football, rugby, squash etc...

Let's split this down into easy chunks; we'll start with motivation.

What are your honest reasons for wanting to lose weight?

To pull women?
To be thinner and wear trendy clothes?
To improve your health an fitness levels?

Your diet, I know you've mentioned it earlier:

Do you mainly eat junk?
Do you binge drink and then eat after e.g. 15 pints on a Saturday night, finishing off with a kebab?
What do you drink during the day? Pepsi/water/fruit juice?
Have you considered the 'healthy' versions that the supermarkets do? You'll even find healthier sausages at Tesco's.

I try to imagine my plate is divided into quarters - 1 quarter for protein (meat, fish, diary products, etc), two quarters for veg, and the final quarter for carbs.

My mates having surgery on Monday for a slipped disk, due to him having to carry a huge beer gut about which has developed from drinking about 40 pints per week!

How commited are you to losing weight? You will need to be strong-willed, try ad find a friend who is happy to join you in the gym or playing sports with you. he more support you have the the easier you will find it. As preiously mentioned, ask your parents to monitor you so you don't slip-up and start munching on crisps etc. Try keeping a food diary so you know exactly what you've eaten that day - record everything! Also keep an excercise diary so you know what excercise you've done.
