Cool

MY93 WRX, imported and owned by me since Jan 2000

Arrived with around 46k miles, and now over 123,000 miles.
Car is used every day, and tends to get driven hard a few times a week . Also does fairly regular slogs on the motorway.

In the time I've had the car I've needed to replace:
headlight bulbs,
manifold air pressure (MAP) sensor (around 70k),
exhaust (complete system - good excuse for a s-s decat around 80k),
front brakes - changed for 4-pots due to sticky slider on one of the original 2-pots (around 90k),
coolant temp sensor (around 100k),
o/s rocker cover gasket (around 105k),
o/s steering rack bellows (around 105k),
rear drop links (around 110k),

...and the usual consumables, 4 sets tyres, too many sets of pads & discs, plenty of oil filters, cam belt, spark plugs etc.

The engine is always warmed-up and cooled down, and still regularly sees the red line! I think the clutch is on it's way out - not sure if it's still the original

Finally, the original JDM stereo is about to go because the cd player is playing-up, and I'm fed up with never knowing where the radio is tuned to!

Well, they 'generally' appear to be amazingly reliable .... we must remember what these cars can do (even in standard form) and to get that level of performance coupled with bulletproof reliability is a credit to Fuji Heavy Industries, now ....

Why can't TVR's and the like be screwed together as well?????

63,000 on a Nov MY02 - still going well, nearly run in - fingers crossed

BTW, had a Mazda Xedos a few years ago, did 202,000 miles in 4 years and it drove like new - problem was that just the regular service/bits cost twice what the WRX has to run!

My94 UK is now on 118,000 miles.
Runs fine, probably at least another 100k in it yet. Driven hard sometimes, but always warmed up and cooled down properly. (Much to the annoyance of the neighbours) Only costly repair bill was new clutch.

Question

10 years and 120k miles seems well within my grasp then!

I would guess that parts would get cheaper as the years go by? and, indeed, more will be breaking!

10 years - at 120k miles with FSH - what would it be worth? £4k? These cars will have a bottom value ..... anyone know what that is at the moment? Mondeos and Vectras fall in value to Zero .... but specialist cars always find a bottom (for example, a good MX5 cannot be bought for under £3k, ever)

So, a depreciation of £18k over 10years ........ not much more than if I had bought a Mondeo! RESULT!
