I don't have kids... BUT if I did and one of them damaged somebodies property I would without hesitation pay-up! I would be gutted at little Liam causing £2K's worth of damage and he would be made to understand the seriousness of his actions ... and a good slap on the **** would be in order...

It's a forgone summerised conclusion of what has happened.

This kid was left outside the front of a house in the street unsupervised - fact. Do you let a 4yr old kid out the front of the house to play and run riot of other people's property and then stay in and watch the TV?

If he were supervised then he wouldn't have been allowed to do it. Who was in charge of taking care of him? A 4year is at that age where they know what is right or wrong, but they can still be mischevious, so they should never be let out of sight.

It's out the front of a house FFS, what sort of road sense does a kid at that age have? Could have been reversed over if he was playing behind a car, or ran over if he went into the street....if he can scratch a car all over with none of his parents/family noticing...then that is pure negligence

Negligent parents IMO are scum. (or whoever was supposed be looking after him). They bring up kids who don't understand wrong, lacking discipline. In other words he end ups being scum, thus the term "scum breeds scum"

First it will scratching cars, then chucking bricks off a motorway bridge, then joyriding - the slippery slope starts at birth and it's the parents/gardians, to make sure it never starts.

I learnt right from wrong by getting a crack on the backside,it quickly sank in,with no ill effects later in life.
Maybe this is what the vandal is missing,but then he would be if his parents are inside whilst he is left outside PLAYING!!!

When my children play out (not near main road)I am with them.The car is sometimes on the drive whilst we play football etc,but I tell them to be careful and also take care with neighbours cars.They dont get smacked for hitting the car but,if they play in a wreckless way ,they get told off.They learn to respect property in this manner,by actually being around it,rather than hiding it in the garage everytime they want to play.

The same thing happened to someone i know. The kid had picked up a stone and draw all over the car scratching the majority of the panels. The kid had grooved the metal so deep that all the panels had to be replaced!!. The kids parents could not afford to pay any money for the damge. Damage being in the region of £10's of thousands of pounds!! (car was a jag!!) The police were called but said that there was pretty much nothing they could do to the parents, or obviously the kid. Story basically ends with the guy having to contact his insurance company and they had to pay for the car to get fixed!!. . What a major headache!!

Does the kid scratch the mothers car or was it just yours?

The kid might have heard the others in the house bad mouthing you for some reason, and decided to take direct action

well what can i say there would be some interesting comments on here.
i agree with most of u, a good slap on the *** would not go a miss,

i have no feed back from the parents yet will have to give them a knock when i get home and tell them to move there *** so i no what i am doing.
every time i walk to my car i cant help but look at the scratches across the bonnet and the wing and it just makes me feel sick, it has kind of pout me of my car it will never feel the same to me even after a spray.

I'm in agreement with ALI B on this one! a 4 year old should not be left alone ever! specially not out the front of a house where there are roads!

Fact of the matter remains he is 4 years old wether he knows right or wrong he did it! therefore they should pay up! simple as!

I have a 22 month old little boy who comes with me and my partner to 98% of the car shows! yes he walks up to the cars to have a look but he knows he is not allowed to touch them! sometimes he does think about it but then remembers and pulls away! he has never ever damaged a car to this day! so whats the difference between my 22 month old and a 4 year old! the 4 year old should have some sense!

his parents were capable of concieving <sp?> him so they should be capable of paying up for his actions! wether its £2000 worth of damage or £2.50 worth!

If you have a child yourself or you could borrow one for a while.
Give him a very sharp knife, point out the little **** next door and let
the fight begin.

Let's see if the police are intrested now.................... I bet the wasters are, so whats the differance................... damage is damage and someone has got to be held accountable.......who was looking after the 4 yr old, his chaver mother wasted on drugs?

I would also be asking, "whats that little **** doing on my land ?

If you have a chat with your insurance company, explain this to then, asking if you made a claim would the insurance company follow-up and retrieve the payout from the parents of the 4 yr old.

just got feed back from the legal team here.

Here goes.
It's not a criminal charge, child is to young.
The police would NOT be interested at all,,,,,,,,,,, nothing new there.

BUT!!!!!!! the parents are responsible and liable for their Childs actions and if
they refuse you can then get a solicitors letter drafted up. If they still give you
the finger then the only option is to take a private prosecution out against then.

They have not a leg to stand on when it goes to court and the cost will be
awarded against them.

So, you should get all the damage paid for by the parents.

well gents, the saga goes on she isn't going to pay a penny, she has no money or partner, she does not work so don't think it will be worth going thru the court.
i will have to pout the rest of my plans onto hold got to much to pay this month, i.e. insurance is due, mot then on holiday then it would be road tax.

i just hope the little **** doesn't run out in front of my car, i might not stop.

does she own the house ? if so then to court you must go........ make an order against the house for the cost of respray and don't forget that they can't then sell the house unless you get your money........ I do hope thats possible mate

does sound like you've got to bite the bullet and cover the costs yourself, that sucks.......
Keep the car garaged and make sure you make her life hell, time to work on a revenge package, best served cold.

I agree. If you let her get away with it it will set a precedant to her and her little yobbo that damaging cars has no consequences. What will happen next time?

Take her to court anyway and get a registered charge on the property (assuming she owns it) or be made to pay in installments. At the very least a nice CCJ will give her something to think about next time she wants a loan or try and move with a charge on the property.

At least she may be more responsible for her errant brat thereafter, minimising the chances of it happening again!
