In 9 years of driving...

Metro 1.3 (built out of bits from my brother's crashed Metro. Added a half decent shell sourced through Loot and it gave me 18 months of motoring for £200).
MG Metro Turbo (First time I drove something even remotely nippy - My brother owned it till last year. Fond memories, but a flawed car).
Rover 214 SLi (Reasonably sized, fruggle and cheap to insure).
Rover Coupe VVC Lovely looking, fast enough, but under tired and too impractical when you need to lug stuff back from Homebase or B&Q.
Rover 25 GTi. Rare and quick. Handles better than the above, but just as quick. (Current)
Citreon Saxo VTR (Current wife's car). Great handling, if a little on the slow side. Still, it hasn't let us down yet and is remarkable rattle free. That said, it's only done 35,000 miles despite being almost 8 years old now.

Can you spot a trend developing there?

Simon.

Peugeot 205 GTi (loved this car to bits - completely non standard in every way apart fro the bodyshell)
Phase 2 Clio 16v (Nice car but got fed up with the rattles so I er bought a er........)
Phase 2 Clio 172 (the one before the 182) this one lasted just over 13 months before I p/ex'd it in for my.....

11 years of motoring...

1 - Honda Civic Si
2 - Alfa 33 QV 4x4
3 - Mitsubishi Lancer Evo III
4 - Subaru Imreza WRX MY-98
5 - Subaru Impreza Sti-5
6 - Lotus Elise 111S
7 - Bmw 330
8 - Mini Cooper S JCW
9 - ...? in 2005-2006, Evo-X or Sti-X if new business projects go well.

Between depreciation and mods I "wasted" about 60,000 Euro, which divided by 8 cars it's an average of 7500 Euro per car ... guess it could be worse. Average ownership adds up to 15 months per car, with the Alfa the shortest (8 months) and the Sti the longest (20 months and only sold it because I moved from Australia to Europe; still miss it and might still have it today otherwise).

Glad to see I'm not the only one suffering from this financially crippling sindrome.

Bloody hell!! I'm certainly not alone.
I'm most jealous of WR1 Bro's current cars I think, although I think Paul has it for an average of 3 cars a year!

Here goes cant resist, makes me feel better about my "habit"

1. Nova Saloon (had a habit of spinning on corners and it look like pooh)
2. Golf Ryder Mk3 (Pants and couldnt afford the loan!)
3. Pug 205 Diesel (Old, very old killed it in end)
4. Ford Granada 2l Ghia (Erm less said about that the better)
5. Rover 214 (Not bad actually pretty pokey for an old 1.4)
6. Rover 216 SOHC GTI (Bloody good car with the honda engine)
7. VW Golf MK1 Driver (Ahhh brilliant scaring cars on corners)
8. VW Jetta GTI 16v (Excellent wolf in sheeps clothing)
9. Rover 216 Coupe (Again damn good car)
10. Audi Coupe 2.0 16v (M Reg kingfisher blue, shame I couldnt afford it then)
11. Pug 405 GRDT (Did the high miles never complained)
12. VW Golf GTI 16v MK2 (Jesus could it go anymore wrong)
13. Pug 307 rapier (Worst car ever, missus car)
14. Scoob 1995 WRX JDM (Lovely but sadly gone)
15. Pug 306 HDI (Yes I hate it, but it does 600 to the tank)

Currently trying to save money but busy planning the next car. So far though cant find a 400 BHP car thats cheap to insure, does 55 MPG and costs bugger all to service....hmm wonder why !

Cool

Not had many in 12 yrs compared to some of you out there. Nice to think back to some good times while typing this.

1) Beige Mk1 Fiesta (with 'styled by Carlini' stickers! & sold after 1 week-PAP!)
2) Orion 1.6 Ghia A reg mint condition with RS turbo wheels
3) SRI Cavalier C reg and mint but slower than my mates with DIY headwork!
4) R5 GT Turbo Raider G reg paid 3.5K standard spent 7.5K modifying it - amazing car with genuine 197 HP all parts fitted by me and reliable!! - Was fast back in 94/95 before everybody was tuning them. Raced a modded cosworth from a rolling start and was level until 95MPH then realised it wasn't that fast!! but still best memories of any car so far
5) Cavalier LXI E reg - part ex from sale of above - CAK!
6) BMW 325i E reg - bought from perfectionist brother - spotless condition and lovely engine
7) Saphire 4x4 cosworth J reg with 300+ HP - very nice 100% reliable car and seriously quick, had to get one after race in 5 GTT (had a ride in a mates last month, accleration felt like starship enterprise but handling and brakes like Beige fiesta above!!)
8) Mondeo 1.8 P reg - dad's ex company car - bargain price couldnt refuse and perfect for moving to London from Up North with no garage for cosworth!
9) BMW 328 Coupe N reg - Very nice and amazing engine
10) Rover 214 M reg - bargain from auction for work - sold after 1yr for profit!

Currently
11) Focus 2.0 Zetec ESP Y reg - Excellent all rounder for work
12) MY02 WRX 52 plate bought new so lost a packet, very nice with cosmetic and chassis mods only but have now sadly lost interest since STI test drive - now feels flat as a fart like a heavy car being pushed along and needs to be thrashed to make progress, wheras STi felt like a light car being thrown down the road whatever gear it was in!( Do I PPP or ECUTEC or STI)

Future ?? Really like M5's and sadly 530d estates for motorway cruising but who knows?

Cheers
Stephen
