You should note that the number of people killed in the UK each year at a speed in excess of the posted speed limit is, on average, just about the same number as are killed in accidents while putting on their trousers. So James, I will ask you: are you thinking of your wife/kids/mates when you allow them to put on their own trousers unsupervised? About 4000 people each year die in accidents in their own homes (about 3500 die on the roads) so are you sure it is safe to leave your wife in the house when she could be out in the car?

Paul, I think you are getting some bad press here, 12 smileys in a row wishing you an enjoyable ban is a bit immature IMO.

You must realise that you have broken the law,the speed limit is there because there are so many bad drivers on the road, people posting that they have sat in your car at 160(autobhan) is not helping your cause here, you might be the best driver in Britain for all I care, but even shumacher will have his hands full when some ***** moves over at 70 when he is doing 130, hence the speed limit.

I feel sorry for you that you are being fcucked about by the law, but as they say, "you made your bed, now lie in it", you have got to take your punishment on the chin, and the accompanying being "fcuked about by the law" that goes with it.

you have no-one to blame but yourself, posts like yours are constructive on scoobynet, at least people can see the consequences, sorry mate, but IMO there is no excuse for 130, whatever time of day on a public road.

just take it in the *** and live with it

Agree, surely you could have changed to 5th and got another 20mph?

Oh I love the wánkers on here who think speed is as offensive as a pair of mouldy knickers.

As is quite obvious throughout thris thread, Paul, edcase, ciderboy and spoon have their own ideas on what is an acceptable speed on the road.

Edcase, i could not give a flying **** what traffic was on the roads or what 'you' feel is safe. The laws of this country say it is an un safe speed to do on a public road.

Have you bunch of kn0bheads not worked out that it doesn't matter what the speed limit is on the autobahns or the death statistics for people putting their trousers on, doing 128mph is against the law and nothing you say can justify you argument.

Of course Paul will soon find out that the above don't matter as he will lose his license.

I am mighty pleased about that too.

James

P.s Paul why have you not answered my question about your wife?

Hard to answer isn't it?

JSW,

Let me ask you a question - what do you consider a reasonable speed for a clear reasonably empty motorway in the UK with good weather conditions and good visibility?

Just interested to know.

I'm just wondering if it would be better to own upto speeding? as opposed to the chance of being done for dangerous driving?

You've already shown some remorse, selling the car etc, but equally you seem to be very defensive when it comes to taking your punishment - just seems a bit suss that your now trying to prove the Police equipment was either faulty or not in calibration - are you really sorry for doing 128mph!

However, keep throwing insults at each other, its funny.

Answer what question? The question was put to Paul afaiks.

I'll post as I see fit and there was no clever intent unless of course it hit a nerve in your opinion, in which case that was with no effort at all.

Your view is different, simple.

It doesnt take einstein to work out the 70 speed limit is dated in terms of modern day cars and driving ability, the question is what should the limit be raised to to reflect this? 80,90, ???? 130

1st rule of thumb in a debate is to keep the same rules throughout and not change them when you feel like it.

Nowhere does it mention asking anyone but Paul.

As he made the statement only he can answer it.

I think people who *think* they are good drivers and those that have driven on autobahns and have a scooby should have a special limit of 130mph as they are obviously *special*.

Thank you tiggs, I agree that my presentation is poor but within that as you have highlighted I feel there is a very valid point.

I would still like paul or people who have defended his actions to answer my previous question
Just as a add on, you mention that your wife has a back problem and you will use this as part of your defense.

Q Were you thinking of her and how driving at that speed could effect HER life?

A Obviously Not

Don't you think it is a bit half a$$ to use her now as it obviously didn't bother you at the time?
He mentions he is happy to take his punishment but then his uses his wife's illness/unfortunate problem to try and get out of his stupid mistakes.

PLEASE ANSWER THIS AS I EXPECTANTLY AWAIT YOUR REPLIES

James

Spoon please find my post from page 3,

my 1st rule of an argument is to read the whole thread first.

hope this helps you.

I wouldn't think increasing the speed limit would actually be the answer. There are far too many drivers on the road who don't understand the basics of driving, let alone high speed driving.

Increase the powers that be to ban and destroy cars owned by lane hoggers might be a start though.

I'm old school and still believe in discretion, unfortunately with so much money to be had and targets to be met it's almost a given that a fine will follow regardless of vehicle, conditions and driver experience/capabilities.

OK - so it is your opinion that 95-100mph is OK, but 125 mph isn't.

Now why do you think your opinion of a safe speed should carry more weight than Paul's (which is what you are asking us to believe by your attitude on this thread) when the only opinion that should really carry weight is that of the lawmakers who have set it at 70mph. They presumably arrived at this figure as they feel that speeds above this are unsafe for the UK roads hence by that reasoning your 95-100 is unsafe.

For the record my personal opinion is that for me the acceptable speed varies vastly with road conditions, but I guess that's a whole new topic.

I don't think my opinion is bigger than anybody's, I feel 128 mph on a public road is complete madness, I am astonished that more of you don't agree with me.

You asked my opinion and out of curtesy I gave you an honest answer, it would have been so easy to say 70mph.

the only speed that I have said is safe throughout this whole thread is 70mph as that is the legal limit, I have not mentioned or hinted at all what I think the limit should be (until you asked me).

Don't really understand your point, you are trying to put words in my mouth!!

Follow your own 1st rule of thumb and read the whole thread first and you'll find that quote was on page 2 and not 3 and it was directed at Paul and can only be answered by Paul, his wife isn't my wife.

Surely though you can see it is just a difference of opinion. You think 100mph is OK whereas Paul obviously on that particular journey thought 128mph was OK.

You say you don't think your opinion is more important than others yet you call him a **** amongst other things becuase he has a different opinion to you.

Discretion?

At last , you are quite right. However, the police have to have a reference point by which to judge speeding offences, and in case you hadn't noticed its called the speed limit. Forget discretion FFS, so you as a copper let a guy off for doing 115 on the motorway because he has a fast car and its quiet, and you shared a few yarns. Ok in principle, he drives off and a mile down the road he bails out and kills a family in an MPV. I'd not want to be in that coppers shoes after that - wake up.

say what you like, you cannot justify 130 on a UK rd, Paul the guy being done isn't trying to, but you are
