what would you buy for £4000

clio williams / 16v
anyway you must be aware that it will be difficult to find a reliable car, whatever you take: sunni gti-r, cossie, mazda 323 4wd..
parts are quite difficult to find, not sure if this the same in the UK..

'What about Fiat Coupe Turbo 20v any body had a play with one of these
and what do you think of them'
4 grand gets you a high miler, I paid seven grand for my 99 (V) with 55k, they win on looks and straight line performance, I love the style of it, its so much cooler IMHO than anything at the same money (including the Scoob), they are however quite highly strung and need specialist maintenance, I had to learn a lot on getting mine, they have quirks like getting through 4 litres of oil in 2000 mile, just put thinker oil in !
Quite practical really, decent boot and can fit adults in the back. The handling is good if you arent coming from a scoob, basically its a wide track Tipo with a big engine but the chassis was aclaimed at the time but at 4k it will need work to give its best. Dont be too scared about the cam belt change, specialist will do it for 300 quid or therabouts.
Nice to drive on open roads but not so great around town, low down they can be a bit flat and then you get a big shove, not a car for the clumsy, the suspension is quite hard, clutch is heavy and the steering lock is abysmal.
The interior is nice but with a little more work Fiat could have made it really special, the standard seats dont grip you very well in corners.
Insurance is group 19, I pay 650 aged 33 with full ncd in leafy Cheshire.
Fuel 26 mpg on my commute, 35 is possible on gentle longer journeys but use the performance and it gets heavy.
Modding potential is good, chip for 30 quid, bleed valve, filter and you are knocking on the door of 250 bhp, hybrid turbo, boost controller and decat and its 300 bhp, more is possible but its front wheel drive, mine spins up in third gear at 65 mph in the wet which can be alarming.
I wanted a Soob for so long and then bought the Fiat, suspect the Scoob would be a better overall package but so many **** holes (Present company excepted), i.e. none enthusiasts have got then and spoilt it, the Coupe is going from the first company and wadded owners into more discerning territory, its not butch enough for the Chav Villian about town.

Porsche 944 Turbo also known as Porsche 951.
You can get a 86-87 for that price. If you spend a little more money you can get a 951 from 88-91 (250 h.p) The Turbo S from 89 contains the M030 handling package and was a option on the 89-91.
These cars are real bang for the bucks. Really fun to drive, outstanding performance on tracks etc.
0-60 for the 250 hp version is estimated 5.5 sec
Topspeed capable of 265-270 km/h

My 1990 525 is only $390 as well, as is my 1995 Diamante, insurance really is wonderful here.

Lancer - Fair enough an early Evo 1 for that money, or a ropey Evo 2
BMW 328 - again, 4k is gonna be ropey
FTO - Not gonna get a gpx for that cash, just the crap 1.8
And how come you say a 328, then say don't get a bmw
