Just because something is more modern, has more toys and is faster, doesn't make it the ultimate. All it does is pander to people who know no better.

Hi Gents just joined this forum and stumbled on this interesting discussion, just to throw a cat amonst the pigeons, when talking about ultimate Impreza's what about the RB5? EVO 11 (09/99) The Greatest 4x4 Car of all time issue which the RB5 won eclipsing the UK 22B and WRX STIV in the process. Admittedly the P1 was not available at the time however the RB5 is definitely up there with the greats.

Yeah what do those experienced motoring journalists know don’t get me wrong I think the 22b is a fine car and easily the best looking Impreza and over a smooth surface it would undoubtedly be a better and quicker drive however please correct me if I’m wrong but a more softly sprung car with narrower track and tyres would be more involving and suited to the average road here in the UK.

I doubt the majority of people posting on this thread have driven a 22b or a P1. Having driven both I will say that the 22b is a fantastic car but you wouldnt want to drive it day to day, or very far for that matter. On UK roads it just aint right and wants to drive itself.
P1 , the ultimate impreza all day long.
Oh yeah, i do a own P1 so i may be a bit biased.

Nowt wrong with 22B suspension IMHO, its the same as the STi4, and although a bit hard, its fine once you get used to it... P1 standard suspension is better suited to UK roads, but I think the journo's are being a bit picky on that one I think.

DEE DEE & MY99
Nothing against them per se , just the MAF sensors from that era are prone to failure and are probably the cause of a lot of engine failures. I've had a Maf go on my car after just 25K miles and there was a thread on here a while back, started by Puff, which pointed to a lot of similar failures causing the engine to progressively lean out until it either goes bang or defaults to the rich limp home mode. Some folks change the Maf sensor ( £75 a pop) at each service now to be sure.

22b, Why? made in 1997, its took 6 plus years to better it : i.e. spec c, and how much better is it?
More than happy to take on a spec c on the track (with the same power), think you will find that six years of development don’t mean that much in track terms.
The 22 is the ultimate scoob, you don’t have to be the fastest to be the best, the spec looks like a! Well any other sti! what looks like a 22?
How many 22B’s have you guy even seen, never mind been in?
The 22B was around £43’000 when new, if you could get one, sold out in 24 hours, 6’000 deposits taken on 423 cars.
Nuff said.
P1’s don’t carry that pedigree.
