Our friend's daughter is into mini-skirts, bare midriffs, dripping with jewellery and make-up... and she's barely 11. Even her own mother calls her a hooker.

I take it you've done the whole facts of life chat.
If you havent you really need to.

Like everyone else says, just go with the flow. There'll be ups and downs and there will be times when you'll ask yourself "Who the hell is this venom spitting viper infront of me!!??"

All you can do is make sure she's independant, confident and well informed. When those 'tricky' situations arise with boys in darkened rooms she needs to be able to take control and ensure that you dont become a grandfather.

Its a fact of life, kids will do it eventually, better that it happens from a position of strength and knowledge at a time that suits her, rather than through fear, ignorance and peer pressure.

everything will be just fine, trust in yourself as a parent and in her as an intelligent emerging adult.

good luck.

Are you confident you have brought her up properly ? Knowing right from wrong ?
Yes?
Stop worrying then.

From one whose been there done it and is just has a bid on e-bay for the tee-shirt, my step-daughter is 18 now. It sounds to me like you, your girlfriend and your ex are all pretty sensible people, who hopefully have instilled a set of decent values into her.

My advice, based on sometimes bitter (but most times great) experience is to go with the flow, some of the things young girls do defy belief at times but you have to learn to let it slide, any opinions you have are best discussed with your ex or g/f first, as your daughter will be of the (probably correct) opinion that you have no clue about what goes on in her life.

Have to disgree with the thread title being the best ever, I think this one is still the tops;

"How long before I ask my girlfriend if I can take her up the sh!tter"

anyway - back on subject - Do you not think that your daugther is just going through a phase and that she'll "return to normal" in her own time? Or do you think she's made a life changing decision?

As they say "they're not kids forever..." although maybe 12 is a bit young for a tart parlour, I would have thought a good shopping trip would have been the order of the day.

mj,

There comes a time when you just have to rely on the way you have brought her up.

Went to a school fair recently and there was a contingent of young girls dressed as what I can only describe as minature prostitutes, just way over the top for girls that young, they dont know subtlety so they go over the top and give out the wrong signal. Its all part of growing up but a little bit of advice wouldnt go amiss, trouble is they start to cover up by the time I am interested, i.e. once they are past thirty !
