The origional Lancer Turbo (Forebearer to the current Evo's) I think. Cant find a decent pic of one. In my first job a draughtsman had one, I was so jealous at the time, way back in the 80's.

Oh and the Mitsubushi 3000GT was like the Supra's and 300 ZX's competitor.

Some great suggestions on here. I'd definitely go with

Fiat Strada Abarth 130TC. Awesme cars I havd two at the smae time. Went like stink, handling was superb and they sounded awesome on twin 40s. ne of mine was lightly worked producing about 165bhp and was so rapid it was one of the few cars that could scare me ! Much betetr than any Golf at the time and still one of the best drivers cars I've driven and a revelation after having driven the normal 205, Golf, 309, Astra hatches, this thing was truly focussed ! Had the best seats in any normal road car ever !

Daihatsu Charade GTti. I Now run the owners club and own the works rally car used in the 1989 Lombard Rally. Seriously quick for a 1 litre and when modified just seriously quick. Weigh nothing and that 1 litre engine can be made to kick out 150bhp quite easilly and over 200bhp is not onheard of. mate of mine has one for a sprint car and its around 600 kilos with 240bhp, now thats a great power to weight ratio ! These cars sound awesome too, handle tidily too and the best bit is they don;t look like much a proper Q car.

Legacy Turbo. Another former ride of mine, just an awesome car for the money.

Love the Detomaso Pantera ! Having heard on on full chat through the streets of Lodnon in the 90s and it sounded like a WWII bomber, awesome looking car too !

Two I currently own spring to mind -

1973 Reliant Scimitar SE5A GTE - 'But it should have only 3 f*cking wheels!'

Not so! It has 4 wheels, fibre glass body & the 2.9 Ford Essex V6. Chucks out 150 bhp & 177 lb/ft, and it's rear wheel drive!

1978 Saab 99 Turbo - 'That thing has a Turbo?'

Yes it does, which is why I'm glued to your bumper at 120 mph. 2.0l 8valve, 145 bhp & 177 lb/ft.

1. People aren't thinking 'but it should have 3 ******* wheels'.. they are thinking 'Hey, what a pile of ******* sh1te.. and it's made by the same spastic's THAT make those sh1tty 3 wheelers'

2. A 1978 Saab Turbo... Again.... oh I can't be arsed... It's just.. well it's just a sh1te old car.... are you 45 by any chance? do you smoke a pipe?

LOL, both quality cars... but as said, the scimiter was made by those same idots that did the robin. Did they not have a habit of catching fire?

And did you not have to book your boost 3 weeks in advance with the saab?

My dad used to have one.. it was good back then, I was upset when he sold it.

Golf Mk2 G60 16v limited, only available in 4door LHD, 210bhp and only a few made IIRC 70 of them. A real sleeper, with a smaller pulley wheel now that would be fun!

The earlier ones were prone to incinerating their occupants, which I think was rectified through adding a retardant in moulding process. With the 99T, we're currently in the process of adding a dump valve & sports downpipe etc, which should allow better spool-up - but you're right, the boost sits down with a cup of tea and a paper before kicking in.

Blimey Senior, that's a lot of power for an NA 'lude! My h22a had a standard 190bhp, I decided to leave it standard and ended up buying an Impreza when I worked out how tough it was to find 20 BHP let alone 40!

I've just taken a ZR160 in PX on my RA. I thought it'd be awful and was planning on selling it straight on but actually, apart the dubious driving position, shocking buld quality and terrible image , it's really quite good. It grips rather then handles, but as you say the 1.8 k series is sweet and the ratios are very nicely spaced. I'm gunna keep it for a bit I think.

Not the best photo, but gives you some idea. Only 40,000 on the clock from new :-). Unfortunately it's not for sale.

Suprised nobody has mentioned: Saleen S7 or Lister yet.

Used to live down the road from a guy who owned a Macros Mantis, sounded so nice.
