Impreza MY05
#62
Having returned from the dealers, I am now told by the sales manager (old salesman now left dealers) that it will be an 04. This is not a big shock as when I ordered the car in June no-one knew about a new model and I ordered an 04 after all. Also to look on the bright side, I now get free servicing for 3 years.
I don't know what you all think, but with the changes being minor I cannot see the resale value of the present model being damaged by the MY05.
I look forward to being back in a FUN car after 2 years of BMW ownership.
Mike.

Looking at the pictures i'm glad i'm not going for an '05 car although the new grey does look good.
Subaru aren't famous for the quality of their plastics and i can't really see that the aluminium look centre console will be any good. I'm in two minds having seen it in the '04 Forester.
With the long term in mind rather than just a show or press car, i think the new door lining/arm rest covering will wear fairly quickly and look rather tatty too soon.

The new grey still isn't very dark - I was hoping for a gunmetal grey like the R33 Skyline. I've seen it for real close-up and although I've nothing against it, I'm still glad I ordered my car in black instead.
The new centre console is rather nasty silvered plastic, but as with earlier cars, all the bits you actually touch are much nicer - leather steering wheel, gearknob and handbrake. The new heater controls have a reasonably solid, weighty feel to them - not Germanic as such, but far less nasty than a lot of cars I've been in. It is the best interior in an Impreza yet - though perhaps not by far - but if you're judging a car by such criteria then you're looking at the wrong car anyway, go buy an Audi A4
Point taken about the arm rest, I'm toying with the idea of having a Supagard treatment (or similar) on just the armrests to stop a nasty black mark appearing.

The changes to the 05 are not just limited to arm rest cloth and new plastics; what of the auto aircon (which in itself is a huge improvement); spec c geomtery reducing the 04 understeer; beefier hubs; larger wheels; pucka rear lateral links; different suspension; underbody panels; loads of engine improvements (none of which I suspect will get to the UK because they still insist on using the old engine).....

I'd have gone for black if i were going for another new one, although i've got to keep my light blue one for a couple of years before i change it.

Hm... maybe I'll get it done then, provided it doesn't delay when I can collect the car. Another week of driving my 15 yr old Escort van knowing there's a shiny new scooby with my name on it would drive me nuts, I fear.
The changes to the JDM car have been well documented (and several people should be driving theirs away next week ). What's less well known is which of those changes will be coming to the Euro car. I know that the bigger hubs are definite, and so's the option of DCCD-A, but I've not seen any first hand confirmation of anything else. I guess the interior and exterior changes are very likely, but I wouldn't like to guess on the suspension mods, G sensor or soundproofing. I'd definitely bet against the engine upgrades (intercooler, inlet, exhaust, AVCS).

But is everybody too polite to point out that the WESTHOUSTONSUBARU pictures seem to be of a completely different car. I think it might be a Chrysler?

I doubt the suspension mods will make a world of difference between the '04 and '05 cars. In normal driving conditions understeer isn't a major problem on the car. If u start to grive it hard enough to notice you either risk a big crash or a dangerous driving conviction.

Have a look at Subaru Japans Website www.subaru.co.jp which has pictures and spec of the MY05 Impreza, which I beleive will be close to what we will get in the UK. While your there check out the WR-Limited edition WRX & Sti, very nice.

I'd agree with u about the engine mods, I bet we won't get the JDM twin scroll turbo.

The suspension mods certainly do make a difference - '05 sees the regular Jap STI get the same geometry and longer wheelbase from the Spec C plus new rear alloy suspension arms. The Spec C remains lighter, less well equipped and has a big I/C spray tank in the boot, but that's about it - the difference between the two has reduced considerably.

Interesting thing on www.subaru.co.uk - within the last few days, IM have chnaged the website. If you go to Priduct Range, rather than now listing the indidivual cars (impreza, Forester etc), they have now chnaged this to read 04MY Impreza, 04MY Forester etc... this pretty much says to me that pics will soon be arriving of the 05MY Impreza and any other models.
I would think, as they have done this now, not too long to wait for those of us eagerly awaiting arrivals and indeed notificiation of MY05 models...

Changes as listed before, but in addition some of the pictures (although the links may have changed) are incorrect. From what I know:
- Will be 17" on UK model
- All other items will also be the same
- The interior image you have shown are incorrect - the car has the same as Liberty which can be seen on this page
http://www.cars101.com/subaru/imprez...005photos.html
- The other change is that the twin pipes at the rear have changed to a single pipe on the WRX
- The new steering wheel does indeed change to a three spoke rather than a 4 spoke wheel, and also now is still made by momo but now features the Subaru logo rather than the momo logo
I know these pics are US trim, but basically, from what I hear from Aus spec cars which are near as dammit the same (my MY00 was from when I lived in Aus), this is what we will get over here.
Finally, you'll all notice the adverts for free servicing on WRX until September. This is, I'm sure, as much to do with clearing old stock as it is to incentivise sales. Come end Sept I would think the new ones will be available. Put it this way - Subaru have not announced the MY05 yet so it's not official - but they are more than happy to take deposit's on the car from people who seem to know that the MY05 is coming along.
Incidentally, the interior is correct - I know this as it makes sense. MAny of you will have seen the Saab in the US which is essentially a rebadged WRX wagon? This is the new interior we will be getting as it's all made on the same production line. If you want to see what the MY05 will look like as well, go to www.saab.com and look at the Saab 2-X - you'll see what I mean.
Cheers fella's.

(1) the 'new' grey paint
(2) the single pipe on the WRX or
(3) updating the sound system to a 6 speaker set-up (which I'm sure I heard a rumour about here...)
Anybody know what happened to these items? Will they or will they not make it to the final MY05 WRX (ps. how cool a reg number would that be?).

How come you got a new car without free servicing included? From what I hear there are plenty of WRX 4 door (few wagons and even fewer SL's) available so they need to clear them out somehow...
