How is MY99 better? According to the article the MY99 WRX flowed 286.3 cfm and STi IV flowed 315.7 cfm. The STi also has a better feed pipe. The core is the same size i both.

But a different weight, why might that be then?

Heavier brackets? Reading the article again it seems that the newer ones have more fins for better cooling.

The later cores are much denser, which is why they are more restrictive and much better coolers.

Do we have a general consensus on which is better (MY99/00 or STi 4)?

i brought a TypeR Ver4 Sti intercooler off ebay for my 97 UK Turbo 2000.

i instantly noticed a difference on boost holding and consitancy, also it dont seem to hit the fuel cut so easily now

deffo the best 150 i spent on mod so far + it looks cool

it was also a straight bolt on jobby, no modding needed as it was the same year/model

V5 intercooler is not a direct replacement for V4 intercooler as Dump valve is in a different place.
In order to make it fit, you have to buy a mod bracket (which Hayward and Scott can make) to do the conversion. The sizes are the same but fin desity higher on the V5.
I reckon the air flow channels are the same so should not be any reduction/increase in pressure but not confirmed anywhere.
