Hoping that PPP will be a bad weather Griff effectively - am I likely to be dissapointed in acceleration by comparison anywhere under 120 mph?
I cant honestly say ,because I fluffed it so badly from the lights it was untrue. When moving off steady and then accelerating together,it was close ,he didnt pull away and I if anything gained on him,we didnt go much more than 80 mph so beyond that I have no idea how they compare.
We plan to go to Bruntingthorpe ,possibly in Sept so come and see for yourself, and anybody else who fancies it,I will post nearer the time when we have set a date.
I have blasted mine upto about 120 ish on short motorway stretches and it has pulled like a train, all the way ,so I dont think you would be dissapointed .

I was driving up th A1 at about 5.00am and I had just run the new engine in and decided to give it a blast. We accelerate at warp factor 8 till the speedo is completely bending the needle all the way round

As I reach for my Bensons I just happened to look in the rear mirror and glance some blue lights way way back in the diastance. Thinking Bo11ox license gone I pulled over in the first layby I come to and sat on the boot waiting for Plod to catch up with me

What seemed like an eternity, eventually this Jag screeches into the layby and this copper gets out walks towards me with the dead pan face and asks"Having trouble getting airbourne sir?"

I am literally curled up with laughter thinking this is the best line i have ever heard from Plod. Thankfully his VASCAR wasnt working properly and he recorded a speed of ZERO

Turns out had I gone much further, there was another unit waiting to ambush me further up the road and thankfully I didnt get so much as a producer. My friendly Plod is a fellow petrol head and just wanted me to lift the bonnet before I left and look at the engine. For good measure I got the asking me was I aware that once you get over 150mph you do realise you are creating enough lift to get airbourne. I never gave that a single thought as I wound the car up to 160.

I still enjoy a little blast but I do give it a lot more thought thanks to some very good Policeman
Good storey supercue.

Reminds me of that Porsche GT car, that flipped up a hill got it on vid on my hard-drive somewhere, doing similar speeds, then bobs over a dip in tarmac, and the next thing it's doing cartwheels in the air, about 6 or seven times if I remember before landing in a tree. Driver was shaken, but not sturred, which is fine if you're surrounded by cutting edge carbon fibre and all manor of ther safety bits, makes you a bit worried in mere mortal cars though! :S

I was stopped many moons ago by a nice cop, I was taking a few libeties on my trail/enduro bike on a duel cariageway speeding changing lanes etc. when I looked behind I was being followed by a police motorcyclist.

After pulling me I was given the choice get done or meet him sunday morning where he was teaching a star rider bronze course, needless to say I took the course I also took the next two courses.

About ten years later I met him again when I decided to take my bike test and he turned out to be the examiner I didnt mention our little altercation until after I had passed my test.

I remember his name till this day some 20 odd years later, mind you I remember the name of the copper that done me for doing 31.5 mph in a 30 zone it was much shorter began with a C ended in a T and only had two letters between.

I think I may owe my life to the training I got I dont think I would have made it out of the motorcycle phase of my life, shame they dont have a similar scheme and like minded police for car drivers.

No offence mate, but anyone who accepts a conviction for speeding at 1.5 mph above the speed limit is a fool.

No court in the land would convict a driver of this, given the inaccuracies in speedo calibrations etc. Tyre wear, wheel size and numerous other variable can affect road speed Vs indicated speed.

Many years ago (you'll see how long in a minute) I used to run American stuff and had a Z28 Camaro (1974) There is a fairly quick stretch of straight road near where I lived then which is split with a roundabout in the middle. Coming home one night, a fully marked up Rover SD1 pulled alongside (said it was a while ago) as I was going down the road and gestured for me to nail it. This I did, kicked down to 2nd and left him behind. When I got to the roundabout though I decided to ease off for the next stretch and let him come tearing past as I thought a 1:1 draw might be the 'correct' thing to do. I might have beaten him in a straight line - but I wouldn't have had a chance in the twisties.

Somehow I can't see this sort of thing happening today - times have changed.

One of my old mates was a traffic cop and an excellent driver - but drove faster than everyone I know - except, well - me! The two of us would usually battle it out on various racetracks around the county - sometimes me being faster - sometimes him (in almost identical and heavily tweaked Golf VR6's).

Anyway - I only appreciated how he was used to chasing bad boys round his neighbourhood when he gave me a demonstration run in the Golf round Middlesex at maximum warp (as if he was in his Vectra V6 Jam Buttie with the lights on)! Amazing - I can honestly say that I have never been that fast on the road - certainly in traffic ....

Another time we had fun with a BMW M5 - his face as 2 Golf's were sat behind him at 155mph (and flashing to get past) must have been a picture! The Motorway was completely empty and we did 160mph for about 10 miles - very odd seeing the needles all the way round the dials (7,150rpm and off the clock at over 160mph) .... even with a racing Oil Cooler, oil temperature climbed to about 128 Degrees!
- I would never do this now .......

Oh yes made me think for a few seconds
Any manufacturer limiting a car to 155/160 and not building in a safety margin of at least 10-20% is probably extinct

I thought they allowed a 10%, the copper said that was not the case.

As it happens I was a day late producing my documents, the plod on the counter said never mind no one will notice. I got my cheque back by return of post while the police decided if they should prosecute me for this, I got a letter through the post some six months later saying that they would not prosecute me on this occasion but it would be held on record and added to future offences.
