I ownded a MY00 turbo for about 18 months, and moved to an EVO VII for the following reasons:

Subaru

The subaru out of the box suffered from and needed the following to make it what it should be imo:

General underpower: Solution = PPP = best part of 2k
Brake fade: Solution = Brake upgrade = £1500
Bumpsteer mod
Suspension mods
Short rack (standard rack is far too long imo)
No Air con
No electric mirrors
Extremely poor in car vision compared to the evo
Engine rebuild for piston slap - followed by engine blow up on incorrect rebuild - followed by another rebuild = inevitably made me sell it.

EVO VII
The brembo brakes are fantastic, and dont fade at all.
The power is fantastic - a little over 300 with decat.
Short rack - makes for precision steering
Air Con
Electric mirrors
4G63 engine - which has given me no problems at all.
Suspension is fantastic compared to the subaru
AYC
ACD

I have done next to nothing to the EVO, and it doesnt fail me in any area, when I owned the Subaru, I constantly thought of ways to make it the car I wanted it to be for road and track, which I dont have to do with the EVO - it's fine out of the box.

I know the P1 doesnt suffer as much on the above counts, and I considered both the P1 and STi7 myself, but I chose the evo about 10 seconds after the test drive finished.

As for running and ownership costs of the P1 and EVO, the differences are minimal, choose what you like best - I did.
