15.5 secs to the 1/4 miles was my one and only time at the pod.

Clearly I would kick Clio's and WRX STI ***, at all other times.

what a lot of absoloute p**h

the red one looked as through he missed a gear you could see that by the way it jerked after the start?
the silver one was in a daydream...by the looks of it
and as for clio cups they are pure pants?
squared up to a local one a few times and mine is a standard 93 wrx with a decat mongoose exhaust and blew him away
obviously the two scooby drivers arent too experienced....

Having sunk into deep depression after reading this thread, and discovering my miserable UK Turbo is rubbish, I was surprised to see Autocar popped wifies lil ole MX5 just in front of the 182 in their "Best Drivers Car" results. Albeit not a cup version.

I was on the verge of selling for something like a Clio/944 or similar mucho respect motor, perhaps I'll keep the Turbo for now. I’ll just have to keep my head down in case I’m spotted

Agree with the missed gear on the red one.

Wonder how many of you would have "spotted" the missed gear if the situation was reversed, ie, scoob beats 911 turbo etc.

We would have spotted it. If somebody comes on and says they've just beaten a Porker turbo they would get cross examined...ie whats thes spec...was the driver trying etc.

...mind you there are plenty of scoobs on here faster than porker turbos anyhow

Yeah, but the people who own them will be doing a thread in hear asking for sympathy soon!

"oh no, my gearbox has died" or "oh no, number 3 has gone"

Its not just how fast it goes, it's about, how long it lasts fast

The guy never missed a gear in the video, it just looks like it because his 2nd gear has no where near the pull in 2nd gear as my Cup. I raced this guy 3 times and beat him everytime, one time he gubbed me off the line and I just ate him up and managed to pass him in 4th gear on the line. Just deal with it and stop making excuses.

Really, you guys are playing too much on this supposed missed gear!! In one of the other two runs they had, he mullered Neil off the line, but the Cup had the power to claw back the advantage the scoob had, taking him on the line!!

Just found this thread !!

I have recently test driven a 182 when looking for a new car, ended up with a MY04 WRX enough said.

My car may not be as quick as a classic Scoob ( dont know never driven ) but it is miles quicker than a 182. I can't believe anyone thinks otherwise.

What the hell does this video prove ? IMO nothing...............

It proves that with a de-cat and a chip a Clio Cup can do a 14.1s 1/4 mile, none too shabby!

Your 04 WRX is not faster than the Cup in the video. No one is comparing a standard 172/Cup/182 to the WRX in the video.

Exactly, I am talking about standard cars so it proves nothing. I am sure with the same mods my Scoob could do better.

Not really "enough said".

Your car may feels "miles" quicker than a 182, the fact is, it isn't! Once rolling they are about the same.

That's rubbish. What would happen is lots of back patting, loads of other owners would come on saying they've raced and beaten all sorts of exotica on their decatted classic with 270hp , a few would say what a load of cr4p that was and would be shot down in flames because they've raced an SL55 and did him easily. Or words to that effect.

Fact is, cars like the CLio prove the Scoob is no longer what it was. Most other manufacturers performance cars get faster as they get more developed. BMW, Mercedes, Mitsubishi, VW, Audi etc etc etc. Subaru haven't - they haven't even stood still, they've gone backwards.
By todays standards, Scoobs are nothing special. Once rolling they're not that quick. TBH, with the quality of competition nowadays, I can't see why people put up with such a poor overall package. You get reasonable performance, but not much else, as an ownership experience they're pretty poor.

Only current Scoobs I'll exclude from this are Spec Cs and the Type 25, which is awesome.

Have you owned one to be able to make the statement that "ownership experience is pretty poor" Craig?

Let's look at this another way, I spent 3.5K on a UK wagon and then another £400 on a secondhand chip and exhaust. Not only do I now have something I can take the washing machine to the tip in I also have a Clio beater (lol) for less than the price of a decent holiday.
Although I'm starting to wonder would my car do a Clio 182? I intend to find out when the girlfriends arrives. I think it would but until I try, who knows. Timed run coming up!

I've owned 2 as well, JDM and UK models and as nothing has gone wrong with them at all, servicing was cheap (done at specialist not main dealers) and they are a good all round car I've found the ownership experience very good. Another strange thing the insurance quote for our 182 is £179 more than the Impreza with Liverpool Victoria. What didn't you like Craig?

All I need to do now is try the timed run and if the Impreza wins I'll have an estate car for under 4K that can beat one of the latest greatest hot hatches, not too shabby.

I'll try wet and dry runs.

Glad you confirmed it, miles quicker off the mark, about the same once rolling, so by the time we hit the legal limit I will be miles ahead.................thank you.

And thats only in the dry of course........................bring on the rain!!!

I'll not dispute the fact the Clio can shift (98mph terminal?), but the point is the imprezas not right, which is why the clios quicker- not because a chipped clio is normally quicker than an a healthy import wrx down the 1/4- which is what seems to be being made out!

If he's not missing a gear the clutch is slipping or his turbos not holding boost. From the way the car settles down on the suspension then delays then jerks again, it does look very much like he cant get it into second however then lunges foward - look at it!

From reading the thread on cliosport, everytime the Clio was quicker up to around 60 from stationary.

Does not that suggest his cars seriously sick?

Either that or your somehow managing to get a front wheel drive clio to 60 in low 5's....
