Just a guess, but maybe Value For Money.

Makes sense as JDM's are cheaper (And better ).

In terms of looks and future resale waiting for an 03> has to be the logical decision???

Paul yep VFM = value for money (to many which magzines). The JDM's follow the same non UK features used on the classic. Better spec, more power and in the case of the bugeye the availability of an STi version a year before the UK. Cant say they are to much cheaper tho although the prices have fallen recently. There are different levels for example EL, GL etc. Look at this link for more info http://www.iwoc.co.uk/jpnewagesti.html
You can spot most of them by privacy glass, rear wipers and folding mirrors amongst other things. Insurance with Elephant was a breeze. My second JDM Scoob and would recommend one to anyone.

For <£12k I don't think you'll get a worthwhile new age STi. IIRC the blobeye WRX has +10PS over the bugeye. Little else other than cosmetic differences (note the deliberate use of the word differences rather than improvements).

I think that Jools' car is one of the best examples of a Bug around.

I just love those lights <sigh> can't wait to get MY Bug

I'm not planning on an STI, just a WRX - bug eye with decent lights sounds a good route - as the pics are showing admirably!

Ping,

If you like Jool's car the there is a tidy UK300 in TH Whites (Cirencester Glos), look totally standard as well.

(And before anyone tells me his is not a UK300... yes I know)

That's a very fair point. When I let my 52 STI go, the dealer (yes, I was in a hurry to let it go!) did make a thing about the Bugeye not being as popular ... it's the older model too I guess.

Funny this tho, when speaking to a dealer this week, he was extolling the virtues of the bug eye over a Blob ...:O Salesmen ... No disrespect - I've been one for 20 years!

As I'm planning to keep the car for 40- 50k miles (3 years), I don't think resale is going to be a major issue in the end ... wouldn't you all agree?

Save your money on the headlights, and you will have a car that looks a little different (standard) 95% of them have been modded. I intended to do mine when I first got it but I have been bitten by the "bug" and think I would miss them now.

As for performance I think the blobeye has a revised ecu and is a bit quicker as standard but if you are getting a remap it just meens you will get a better performance jump for your money.

Try to live with it standard for a while you will apreciate the gains all the more when you get it modded.

That's what I did with the classic wagon 2 years standard, TEK1, TEK2, ScoobySport DP - once you've had it and let it go, you want it all over again!

I was sold on getting a classic, mainly cos I didn't like the bugeyes front end, but after seeing the tidy examples in this thread I may need to reconsider! I would imagine that their lack of appeal has helped lower the 2nd hand prices, which is good if you're buying. Not all that worried about resale, if only cos you always lose money on cars (Unless you buy a appreciating classic or whatever)

I have an 03 blobeye, and think personally it looks better than the bug, but if buying for VFM, I'd go for the bug.

Their values must have done their big drops now, since the facelift, so they will have a more predictable and maybe slower depreciation now, compared to when a new shape comes out and the blob drops rapidly.

Also, I think they look better now than I did when I brought my blob

I've owned both the bug eye and the blob eye's. Looks wise they're both ok in their own way. I can't really compare them in terms of driving as they are different models/specs.

For the money your looking at paying i think it may be very unlikely you'll get a blob eye yet.

I agree with what mrklaw said about the depreciation leveling out. I got a similar price for my bug eye a few weeks ago to what i was offered about a year ago when i looked at changing it previously.

Cheers Paul but it says 03 onwards so blob not bug

You might want to take a look though Devon03 - STi but presume would be ok for WRX?

When you see the bits laid out like that, how the hell can they justify charging £225? Must be nearly a fiver's worth of stuff there lol
