Things on the road that really wind you up

Maf, is it an R-plater? I think we've passed each other a few times now. I'm easy to spot. I'm the bloke driving on the pavement in the red T-plater with Jed, Elly May and Jethro Clampett hanging off my back bumper and trying to fire a blunderbuss through my rear screen! (if confused, see my first posting in this section!)

Maf,
In Germany they put up a sign showing a zipper to indicate alternate lanes where road narrows.
Works a treat, they hardly even slow down

reminds me of seeing a great bit of policing recently....was on the M40, where there was a new section of temporary roadworks which, due to whatever they were doing, involved little chaps legging it all over the place. As a result they did the 'large red X's on the gantry' thing to indicate a closed lane - about 2 miles in advance of the area of roadworks. There were also plenty of signs... So we all merrily float over to the nearside lane and carry on - which ends in about a 1/3 mile queue - nothing tragic. Getting right up to the roadworks and this repmobile BMW roars up the middle lane and squeezes in a couple of cars in front of me - obviously pissing off a fair few people who have courteously been queueing. Unfortunately for him, a police car was sitting right at the start of roadworks and watching/supervising (I think because it really was quite dangerous for the workmen) - and motioned Mr BMW driver out and back into the middle lane. He then, very obviously, went over and told him he was going to be sitting there for a while! I did smile

Road works contractors who do repairs on minor roads with temporary traffic light control. They clear up at the weekend but forget to remove the "Traffic Signal Ahead" sign. You slow down for a quarter of a mile wondering if you missed a red light before you realise what's happened. DL
