We got married as we'd been together on/off for five years, quite enjoyed the "on", but couldn't stay together otherwise (visa restrictions).

I was a bit embarrased to explain to friends. Then I found out the only reason one got married was to be able to legally adopt a child: the only reason another got married was to free herself from the subsidised mortgage on a tiny starter flat ( stay for 5 yrs, unless married); and the only reason a third got married was to get benefits equating to a substantial pay rise at work. In all cases, living together unmarried for 3 years (and hey, many marriages don't last that long) meant diddly squat.

Sorry to all the die-hard romantics out there...

Got married after 22 months


Fancyed another party as the Divorce Party the year before was a classic party and my mates enjoyed it so much i thought i would throw another wild party

The wedding booze up lasted 2 days with 19 people for Breakfast the next day


Any excuse for a party !!!

(And the misses is a good laugh as well )

Met June 82. Engaged March 83. Married November 84, three days before my twentieth birthday so I could say I was a teenage bride. I wanted to prove people wrong about marrying too young, oh and I loved him. And I think I have proved a point now.

Fell in love at 14 married at 19 and yes we are still married and very much in love, though she does come second to the Scoob she was third until my dog died last year, so she has moved up a place we will have been married 27 years this month.

The problem with marriage is that it has zero tangible benefits for men these days, and after seeing the Ray Parlour divorce I expect a lot of men feel the same !
