They are saying that he can be sued certainly by his more recent rape victims for damages so with a bit of luck they will get the money from him anyway.
It certainly is sickening that a low life like him gets that kind of luck, but that's life! And certainly nothing to do with religion which does not promise everything in this life but only in the next life if you live as you should do.
That was the answer I wanted to give Olly.

I get grumpy every weekend when somebody else other than me wins the lottery...
...mind you I would probably have more of a case if I had bought a ticket

Hmm, I don't get "angry jealous" when people win the lottry...just known rapists. Its a part of life. Not ideal but has happened. In the ideal world, he'll get raped, mugged of his cash. But it isn't, is it.

Seriously though, I would rather he hadn't won, but I don't think we need to be creating new laws becuase of it. As others have said, those who ought to benefit (his victims) can still sue him. If he hadn't won they wouldn't even be able to do that, clouds and silver linings??

Victims can hopefully get something out of it, some sort of re-compense, insignificant on the grand scheme of things but still - its something. Hopefully he'll lose it at the bookies AFTER the victims have sued his **** to crap.

In a way i guess at the moment all this who-ha isnt doing them any favours.
Sad really.

Nope I expect the press will hound him when he gets out (back to the Maxine Carr thread we had a while back). I expect he will jump the country to be honest.

I thought there was a limit to the amount of time between an offence, and when you could claim damages from someone (6 years??????)
Unfortunately his offences were longer ago than that, so they wont get anything

Does anyone else get worried when the Government starts on about changing laws that affect 60 million people because of just 1 person? Where will it end? Personally I don't think anyone who isn't me should win the lottery, but I doubt I'll get that passed even though it causes outrage (in my house at least) every week.
Life is unfair, get over it and get on with it

After listening to Radio about this last night I have formed 2 opinions:
1. He should get the money - he played, he won.
2. inmates however, should (by introduction of law) not be allowed to participate in a National Lottery. They are not in society thus should not participate in such events. Preventing a (unlikely) re-occurence of this contentious issue.

They would not be allowed to claim if released. However if a family or friend claimed on their behalf there is nothing anyone can do really.
Sucks doesn't it.
I just hope it doesn't happen again and "nice" people win....like me.
