Not quite in the same league but had an 04 545 bmw trying to show me a clean pair of heels at the weekend...

Very happy having to let off now and again so as not to get too close... He certainly had to have a second and third look when he turned off...

I bought the car for me ... not whoever buys it after I sell it!! Couldn't give a flying ****e about who buys if after I've finished - why would I!!!!

What I was referring to in johnd's post was the fact of wrapping the car in cotton wool making people more of an enthusiast that others!! My turbo doesn't get touched until the oil temp is normal and it's been running for about 10 mins at low revs - then it gets driven properly after that!! I just intend on proving all the figures that are given for it's performance and finding out what it can really do on road/track/grass or wherever.

You've just wasted 30k if you bought an impreza to look at and polish on a sunday - go buy a diesel!

I could understand that if it was a video recorder, but a 30K car? If you are that cavalier then I doubt you'd take any advice posted here anyway.

PS. The handbook would not tell you it was OK to ignore the running in limits anyway so, in that respect, reading it would be a waste of time.
I appreciate there is a handbook, but I did take advice from my dealer, also spoke to Prodrive when I was down there re this issue. Having owned 4 scoobies , I think I understand something about owning and driving the car.

For the records I had the car for 3 weeks and observed the 4500 advised limit, week 4 saw a few cavalier journeys over this, with only the one time going as high as I posted, weeks 5-7 back to normal within reason.

Hi Clive, will text you re Friday night.

But neither he, nor anyone else said that. All they are saying is that you should run a car in for the 1st 1000 miles, then have fun ragging the *** of it, safe in the knowledge that you're not grinding metal shavings all around your engine. Everyone here will explore the full potential of their car, just not during its 1st 1000 miles. JWS suggested he planned to do just that, ragged it out the showroom. And you seem to think thats the only way. People are not saying, wrap in in cotton wool for the rest of its life, they are saying respect it for 1000 miles. No more. No less.

You might want to check your quotes Millie. With the exception of the comment that it says 4000 in the book, the rest of the message was aimed at JWS.

STi4ME and Zerolight
Cheers guys, I'm glad you (and quite a few others, I'm sure) understood what I was getting at!
As an (ex) engineer, I can't help having built-in mechanical sympathy.

Glad your enjoying it m8

For rear wheel action, flick the auto button and rotate the DCCD wheel all the way back till you feel a 'click'. On the drivers instrument pod, buy the fuel dial, this should be illustrated by a green rectangle.

Be careful!

Don't forget that's thin running-in oil you've got in there at the moment!

They can tell how you've been driving anyway, by plugging a device into the car. Clive can confirm this.

Yip, this is correct......... had ProDrive have a look at my car a while a ago, something to do with a noise coming from the engine (turned out to be a gromit missing) but when they plugged in the computer Mike could tell just how the car has been driven :>)
""Been giving it some have you Clive"" :>))))))))))))))
Why,,,,,,,, sure have, beaming from ear too ear

So yea they will know if you rag it before they 1K service.

Andy, glad to here you got her serviced the other day........... enough about this misses, what about the car......lol....... let me know when your in the area passing tonight.

You really want to run the car in according to the handbook (dont exceed 4k unless in emergencies) and after your oil change add 500 rpm per 100 miles until you get to 7.5k (1500+ miles), by this time your engine will have bedded in nicely but you will still find the car quite tight as these engines dont really come to life until you have around 5k on the clock.

I totally 2nd the 5000 mile comment. The difference just a couple thousand miles have done to my engine is quite noticeable. I've just hit the 6000 mile mark that last journey I did
She absolutely screams to the the red line!

Should anything go wrong chaps, Subaru may be able to download max revs info and invalidate your Warranty just like the Vauxhall VX220 does. So my advice is keep to 3000 for first 150 miles then bring up to 4000 after that. Once 1000 miles is finished don't flippin red line everywhere gradually increase revs over next 500 miles. Oh and change your oil more than every 10.000 miles/12mths. Car will last then.

Picking mine up tomorrow.

Cheers

Oh Sorry,

I think 10.000 mile service is too much on sti anyway.

Are you the proud owner of a wr1?
