It gets driven how its needed to be driven, simple as that.

When you lot say "up to temp" what temp are most of you waiting for to get "up to temp"

Which gauge you watching to come "up to temp"

I'm lucky enough to have a 2 mile 40 then 30 mph limited drive into the estate, like most here, I give it a few (5-10) seconds on startup before moving off, then just poodle around to the motorway which is about 5 minutes away. Coming home it will have been off boost for about 3 miles so its probably already cooled down enough.

A few seconds is OK although leaving it a few minutes is a bit pointless as it takes ages for the oil to warm up at idle speed. Then there's the fact that none of the rest of the car is being warmed up (gearbox, driveshafts, brakes etc.) so you still have to take it genltly for the first few miles regardless.

Not only is it not the best thing to do leaving it to warm up if a ****** decides to take ur car whilst you just pop back inside to get your wallet - doub't you would get an insurance payout!

It always amases me esp. in winter how many cars you pass with the motor on and no one about

I'll turn on ignition, wait for the pump to stop whirring and start her up. Reverse out of garage and stop. Close garage door, put nipper in the back and strap her in. This takes about 20 ish seconds. Haven't got far to go so never really over 3000 until the oil temp is on about 150F.

Try not to turn off whilst oil temp too far above 180F.

In an RS200 theres a sticker which says allow car to idle for 30 secs before moving off.

I always thought that idling an engine unnecessarily can damage your engine as they are not meant to be run for long periods without a load on then. This can cause excessive bearing wear and make the engine sound a bit tappy.

I personally just drive off slowly not working the engine to much giving it not to much throttle and being nice and gentle with the gearbox (double declutch going into first gear) until it's warn ie 5-10 minutes driving.

It would take ages to fully warm up the engine on idle and also choke up your engine in the process and burn lots of fuel for no reason.

Out the garage, shut the door, and off. Quiet sub 3000 rpm for 10 minutes then as the mood takes me.

I don't have a Turbo timer but I do let the car idle when I stop for 4 or 5 minutes especially If I have been in spirited mode.

Drive's the wife crazy when were going to someones house... me sitting in the car while she explains all about looking after the turbo thingy....

I cane mine from cold

not my own car though I always drive my own car gently 'til it warms up fully and oil pressure is good (If I have a guage) before I'll put my foot down

Bearing in mind the emphasis put by Subaru on warming the oil to a certain temperature I'm still amazed that, even now, they still don't fit an oil temperature gauge as standard.......

Warm up from anything from 30 seconds to a couple of minutes. I do however drive it straight away after pushing it out of the garage, if i'm leaving at about 5 in the morning. My exhaust is not very forgiving
