I have just fitted a VOS chip to my 1996 wagon with td04. I knew that i would need a mbc even though the VOS chip has 16psi programmed in it.
The nature of the td04 means that you are best of adding a MBC.
Before with the MBC on stock ecu i was getting juat shy of 1 bar 4th and 5th under load but only 0.75 bar everywhere else. Td04 just could not hold the boost in the lower gears. If i turned it up anymore i hit the fuel cut in 5th. After fitting VOS i can now hold 1 bar all the way through the rev range and in every gear. Car feels much more free and happy. Its brill.
Nice about the correct fuelling too. May try to up the boost a bit more this weekend but i feel (as backed up by other mappers) that the td04 will not like anymore and may begin to spit the dummy. Anyway VOS was well worth it even if the cel does come on (so what - just take out the bulb!) AFR gauge hasnt shown any over lean mixtures yet (think this is cos im running less than the intended 16psi of boost.)

Few questions..with regards to your mis-fire issue.......how old are your plugs?? and also did you check to see whether your Coil-packs are okay??, as running higher boost puts more load on them and that can coz the mis-fire...also are the plugs the standard spec ones or colder grade ones to cope with the extra boost???
How easy was the install of the chip??
Cheers

I have sent pics, please feel free to distribute.
Plugs are NGK Platinum I think they are 6R at the end or something like that... most of the scooby board in the states and australasia recommend these. They prolly done about 20k. The coils packs are fine. The gap was wrong... I reset to 0.6m and all is fine.
