Never! There was plenty of stuff that was well-styled in the 70s, but the Pantera (all wings and bloated arches) wasn't one of them.

Think of the other cool cars of the era: Ferrari 246 Dino and 308 GTB, Lamborghini Countach (pre-wings and scoops), Aston Martin DBS V8, BMW 2002 and 635, Jaguar XJ6 Mk1, Datsun 240Z, Mazda RX3, Mk3 Cortina, Porsche Carrera, TVR S-series, droop-snoot Vauxhall Firenza, MBG GT, Alfa Spider and GTV...

My dad had a RX3 and that was ace although I was only just born at the time

Got to agree with all your list apart from the Datsun and the MG

William Towns

was responsible for the Aston Martin Lagonda:

Some other stuff to have come out of his pen (notice the common theme?)

Well I used to own the Mk1 Scoob in the picture I posted, so I can't really talk either. Mind you, I was never under any illusion that it was a pretty car.

Honourable mention must go to the Morgan Aero 8. A pity, because if they'd actually thought about the headlights, it would have been a gorgeous-looking car:

Thought I'd also get in the Mk2 (facelifted) Hyundai Coupe. Peter Stevens designed the first one, but for the facelift Hyundai thought they'd have a go at it themselves:

Carl just beat me to it....the Hyundai. I read that Mr Stevens says that he laughs everytime he sees one. Every angle is wrong and then they painted them kermit green.

Truely horrible.

How about the Vauxhall Tigra?

I just love the way the sidelights seem to bear no relation to the headlights. They're not the same shape, not in the same horizontal plane, don't share any styling cues...

PS: Why "Zoton"? You a fan of lansoprazole or something?

What-a-bout a 2CV, there use'to be a safari one parked down the street, for years I wanted to rip the roof off and dump a load of rubble in it.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm....................

William Towns.............do you think he only had a ruler in his pencil case??
I don't think he had a compass, or a French curve!!!!! LOL

On the Pantera........."All wings and bloated arches". True of the later and GTS models, but the original was quite nice.

"Americanised", but still very nice

A bit like what happened to the Countach..........

Gandini's original show car

The one on every teenage boys bedroom wall

I actually prefer the bewinged bohemoth, but I grew up with that style........on my bedroom wall!!!!! LOL

Marty

I was going to suggest the BL Princess/Ambassador but I reckon it's starting to pick up some of that 70's 'chic'

Drop in a rover v8 and hello laydies!!

so I'll go for the Multipla instead

What's cool about the Princess is that "the wedge" is the basis for some of the nicest-looking cars. You wouldn't have thought you could go wrong designing a car around the wedge, but BL did

- Bug-eye scoob (what the hell were Subaru thinking?!!)
- Any Hyundai (just all look like complete sh*t, especially Amica and that 4x4 one)
- BMW 1-series (better get used to it tho, going to be millions of the damn things)

I think Bristol need a special mention for never designing a good looking car.

http://www.allcarpictures.com/bristo...m-pictures.htm

Yes they are hand built to the highest standards but they use some old American lump of an engine, look like oversized Morris Marinas and cost a bloody fortune!

Only bought by wealthy eccentrics with bad eyesight.
