2. you cant put in post codes.
3. some areas are not mapped for addresses, like in Central Wales, I wanted to go to an area just to the North of Dolgellau, Ganllwyd, or Bronaber and it insisted on taking me to Anglesey every time.
4. Gets confused sometimes on the M25.
5. still waiting for the case after two months.
6. only low level mapping in Europe.
7. fuse keeps blowing.

Apart from that it fine. Probably the best portable sat nav there is.

1. Yeah heard about that (8mm washer?) will take a look but no problems yet.
2.Don't quite understand what you mean about the Postcodes. You can. The first 4 digits/letters, followed by a house number if there is one.
3. Try a postcode
4. Don't we all! I'll find out on Thursday...
5. Yep should have been in the box.
6. Have you bought the European Map Disc?
7. Not had that problem. Has the same happened with other plug-in appliances?

Steve

For some of the areas in Wales (or anyway else for that matter) - zoom into the map and set the town / area you want as a waypoint or favourite. You should then be able to navigate to it. If you set points close by as waypoints, you should be able to set your route to go via these points which means TT shouldn't try to take you to Anglesey!

It does say that you get the basic main roads of Europe - but we found that good enough to navigate around Germany for the rally a few weeks back - almost down to minor street level in major towns and certainly good enough to get us to the stages (which are a little off the beaten track).

Cool

If you want a decent GPS then this is fantastic and runs rings round the Tom Tom.

The Navman PiN

And is also cheaper.

I like the look of that. I could use it in the map pocket of the tank bag on the bike too.

Skyline R32 GTR
Loads and loads of fun but trying to save my pennies and buy a BMW Mcoupe.
Pick up the missus new car tomorrow - VW Lupo GTi from a dealership in London (I'll be taking the TomTom for the drive back to Plymouth) if you ever get the chance to drive one do it. What a load of laughs. In gear times are just great and a bit of a suprise.

And the problem with that is?

I have both the iCN630 and the PiN and both of them are great, and I have found a route that I use between home and work and both devices have chosen the sam route so they can not be that bad.

also the Windows OS is not the same crap you run on your PC, viruses are not an issue and the thing has not crashed, hung or done anything odd since I was given it.

It does help having a contact at Navman and being an approved tester for them.

So, let me get this right.... you need *two* Sat Nav devices to find your way to and from work. Now that's scarey.....

Thanks for waiting till I buy an Ipaq and TTN3 to start telling me its a bit prone to crashing
Seriously though, awaiting an admitedly older Ipaq 3870 and TTN3 so I can start using sat nav and maybe venture outwith my normal haunts without getting lost and shouting at her when she cant read a map LOL. Hopefully I wont have too many glitches/crashes but then again ............
Gotta admit the Tomtom Go is superb, was playing with it for some time in the nearby PCworld. Look at Sat nav in cars most days and this one looks far better than most OE stuff out there IMHO

FWIW I also have TTN3 on an HP Ipaq. The TTN software is fine, but the PPC keeps freezing. Which ain't fun when you're approaching a junction at 'the speed limit'....

TT Go is VASTLY superior to the PPC interface and OS.

does the ttg tell you where speed cameras are located? i've seen some screen shots of it displaying things like petrol stations and places to eat thought it might save buying a new road angel as well if it does

I hardy have any probs at all with the latest Tom Tom software on board, and the latest updates. Works a treat, have a full postcode lookup integrated into it, speed camera locations etc and it runs fine on my IPAQ 2210. I'm using the hardwired solution though which gives less issues. Maps etc are all on a 256 SD card.

TomTom software is great. I'm using mine with a Palm T3 PDA and Bluetooth GPS but unfortunately every now and again you have to delete the GPS receiver and 're-discover' it before it functions correctly.

Think I'll be ordering a Go

In addition to all these othre posts. I'd thought I'd add my experience with TomTom

I run it on an iPaq 4150 and TT3 Bluetooth (less wires).

It runs great! I don't use it around where I live very much but if I drive, say into the centre of Sheffield, it is VERY useful.

I used it on a run to Yarmouth from Sheffield and it was 100% accurate. The BEST feature about it is that you can download a list of Speed Camera locations (and Mcdonald/fast food locations!) which are also VERY accurate. It saved me from a few points on the A1....and I haven't got my scooby yet!

I'd definatley recommend it. A good website for sat nav is....

http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/

(hope it's okay to mention that)

Cheers

Great link jowl.

You can use THIS which makes the whole thing a lot more desirable in my opinion.

My only question/reservation for people using TTG is are you finding it annoying having to take it out of the car with you all the time as it seems it will always be visible.
Or are some of you using a dash mounted solution rather than windscreen.

Great thread.

Does anyone know when the POI database (that includes 'safety camera' locations) will be available for the GO? It seems it's you can download it for the Navigator software but not the Tom Tom Go device.

Do we have a dfeinitive answer as to which is best yet?

TomTomGo or Navman Pin?

Bearing in mind that without good Europe coverage I'd say the unit is near useless for me as I'm always nipping over the channel to pick up my ciggies.

I thought that's where I found the info.

Rest assured, the TTGo is compatible with the POI's.
There were issues as updates for the Palm version do/did not accept POI.
I'll find the correct link and post it here. I think I'll be getting one of these. Maybe you should organise a group buy ...

Edit to add POI link ...

You won't be disappointed. Mine's barely been switched off since I got it last weekend...

And that's more than I could ever say for the Ipaq 5450 and TTN3...

Is it already set to pick up speed cameras or do you have to download to get this working??

Does anybody know how often TT release updates for the maps - roads like the M6 toll could do with being added ?

No, it's not set up for speed cameras out of the box. You would have to add them as Points of Interest. See post above for suitable links.

Got back, literally 1 hour ago, from Arnos Grove (London) to Plymouth. Picked up the missus new car from a VW dealership there. Didn't take a map with me, just the TomTomgo. Was a little apprehensive.
"What if it took me the wrong way round the M25?"
"What if it wanted to get off at junctions that didn't make sense?
"What if... all sorts of crap?"
Needn't have worried.
It didn't miss a beat. Not 1 wrong turn. Even told me what time I'd get home.
It was out by 3mins.

Quick Reply: TomTomGo. Bought one. Erm...Wow!!!
