My wife is disabled, it realy p1ss's me off when cars are parked in spaces that shouldnt be. The other week some lads in a nova where parked at our local supermarket in the disabled spot so I parked the car accross the front of them, the wife went mad at me! LOL and made me move! soon as I moved they blasted off all red faced. (some do have a concience)
When we are in her car a Automatic Focus with handcontrols people accept the disabled car, but the amount of time I have had people shouting at us when we are in my Scoob and park in the Disabled spot is amazing, until they wife gets out of the car then they normally go away red faced!

Digging this old one up...

Took my disabled father out at the weekend, tried to part near the entrance and every single car in around 10 disabled spaces were NOT displaying a disabled badge.

Bastds.

X5 drivers seem to be allowed to park wherever they like - frequently see them in disabled spots, or parked between 2 regular spaces

Does not do any harm to drag it out again,if only to demonstrate some of the really selfish people posting on this thread.

Indeed.

Never parked in a disabled spacw and never will. (Assuming, of course, I am never unfortunate enough to become disabled!)

If you are not a disabled badge holder, and park in a disabled space, you are pretty much scum.

Ive often thought about setting up a website allowing people to post pictures of cars parked in disabled spots without a valid permit.

Does anyone know the legalities of show peoples registrations?

mmm, not sure, however, I would think you are on shaky ground. The problem with this sort of thing is that you need to be 100% certain that the car you are photographing has no business being there. And without speaking to the person who has parked there, you cannot have this certainty.

Every day i pass a 911 Turbo parked in a Disabled parking place, proudly displaying its Disabled badge.

Is it just me, or am i justified in saying that if you're that disabled that you need to be able to park specially near your premises, you shouldn't have a 400+bhp car under your right foot?

Happens almost everytime I'm lucky enough to have the opportunity to take my blue badge holding Grandparents out for the day. What I like to do if possible is let the old folk sit down and have a cup of tea/slice of cake and then go and find whoever is managing the parking and get them ticketed. Failing that if I'm in a hire car or old banger I'll park right across the people that are hogging the spaces and not displaying the blue badge and leave a note in my window with my mobile number on it. Then I come and explain to them that the inconvenience they caused my Grandparents and me is what directly inconvenienced them- as I turn up an age later.

Always makes me feel a lot better.

No you aren't justified in saying that- it's just you. Plus they could well be using hand controls for the accelerator.

No, you aren't justified in saying that , at all.

Why shouldn't you have a 400+BHP car if you're disabled?

Well it depends how you're disabled. And if it's a disablility that affects your mobility, then is a 911 Turbo safely controllable? But i'd overlooked the suggestion of hand controls replacing the accelerator.

Tel,

My old boss is a paraplegic who drives a tuned MkIV Supra twin turbo with hand controls. Scared the life out of me when I used to work for him.

Is the 911 smashed to bits?

If not, then, yes, it obviously is safely controllable.. For that person.

Besides which, there are plenty of reasons you would have a disabled badge, and not all of them have anything to do with limb disability. Example, a freind of mine had stomach cancer, and the resultant operation to remove 5/6th of her stomach meant she qualified for a disabled badge due to poor mobility. She could drive fine though.

same here. mrs is disabled - don't forget it only has to be the person using the car not the driver that is disabled - so we have a blue badge. i use it legally, i.e. only when she is in the car, otherwise i park as far away from the door as possible to prevent damage by muppet.

the 911 guy might be using grandma's badge, if so then she can have it taken away from her. Lots do it in town, use an elderly relative (hip replacement = blue badge) so they can park on a meter for free all day. Unfortunately unless the parkie is there at the same time then there is nothing they can do.

That said, a number of the Supra club are disabled, the car is great as it has huge doors making entry easy. Coupe's are all like that. the FTO we had was superb too.

Does my nut when we go to the local retail park. the cinema has disabled bays that are usually taken up by the people supposedly going to get fit at banatynes gym. Going to the gym but parking as close to the door as you can because you are idle? Irony there i think.

Tel, plenty of paralysed individuals, paraplegics and Quadriplegics drive cars of that calibre, manual or automatic. Simple hand-controls on an auto enable the driver to go and stop! A button controlled clutch on a manual is the other option, coupled with a hand-control.

Ex-racing drivers and car lovers with the money, that have had accidents and ended up paralysed to some degree, don't suddenly stop loving fast cars.

That bloke you mention probably uses a wheelchair to get to and from his Porsche, in fact it's possible he uses a wheelchair full-time.

Think on.

Just to add Tel, I've driven a Group A Cosworth with over 500bhp on hand-controls and electric clutch. Now that was a hoot. It never stayed straight under power anyway, let alone trying to change gear and steer whilst accelerating with just your hands.

Sounds fun I think i "struggle" with this Porsche because it's in one of THE most visible parking places in the City, and it's such a conspicuous combination - brand new 911 and a Blue badge. I bet he just suffers from migraines.

As i said he might just be using grannie's pass to get a nice big space where his car can't be damaged.

follow him and then you could shop him up! heh heh

Types of cars and certain locations shouldn't really mean a thing, simply because somebody can own a huge company in the middle of London, even if they are physically disabled.

The blue badge isn't a sign of stupidity in most cases.

Bloke parks opposite my office every day in a meter bay, paying nothing of course because he is displaying a disabled sticker.

Fair enough, but the guy appears fully physically able to me when he gets out and runs up the road.

No special controls, just a standard UK WRX Impreza.

Now that really is taking the **** and abusing the system.

Report him then- if he's disabled then no harm done. If he isn't you'll be doing your bit to free up another space for those that need it.
