When my Pride and joy was written off, it also happened 2 months before renewl, i got no hike, infact i got my NCB and it was great, till the following year. OH BOY.

Have to take my hat off to yah, your very calm, But god help any **** who tries to take your car again..

Just wondering, but did the Insurance company try and write the car off?

well done for stayin calm....
Personally i would have been like a banshee.

Hope she gets better soon and you can put it behind you and move on together.........

i feared the worse this weekend at the Wales Rally GB. Was walking back to the car and could see this guy running from the vacinity of my car.
They had screwed the Pulsar next to me.
Even in Margam Park, with the police and security around, the cars are not safe.
I counted 9cars within 30ft which were all radio-less and damaged...

Sorry state of affairs aint it...

Good point about the RoadAngel ... ironically and (thinking about it) stupidly I have gotten into the habit of leaving it plugged in, so much so that when I park up I don't even think about it. When I get the Scoob back this will have to change when not parking at home.

The alarm/immobiliser on the car was simply the factory fitted one ... nice to see it can do the job, just wish they hadn't made such a mess whilst trying to circumvent it

Previous time in Brum airport when I came back I'd been dinged, learnt my lesson and now park as far from the next car as possible. Another £40 down the drain but still, was less than the damage caused by a deranged peacock ... my fault for washing the car really, he saw his reflection and decided two peacocks was one too many, stupid bird

As far as I know the insurance company never considered writing the car off, in some ways I would almost have preferred the scum to have nabbed it and then trashed it. Hopefully the car and its appeal will not have been tarnished in the long run by this incident ... 300+ days of and 1 day of

Hi Mikkk,

A mate of mine had his Pug 206 done over at Brum airport a few weeks ago. They punched a hole in his door and nicked his CD player. I looks like they removed it with a chain saw.

A whole row had been done, about 15 he reckons.

Bad luck mate, this sort of thing is all the more horrifying when you see the pics. I've been using a taxi for the airport run now for a couple of years, I find it far less stressful.

I recently flew from Birmingham, but having a deep suspicion of airport car parks and Brummies in general (no offence intended), I used Airpark Services. Think there is a weblink somewhere....

Cost me £35 for the week and it was 24hr monitored and secured parking. Couldn't fault them, they even came anc checked the car for damage etc on arrival and departure, to make sure that you concurred there was no extra. Couldn't fault them at all and it was certainly more comforting than leaving it IMHO.

It's just a shame that we can't stop all therse thieving little ******* with some more "offensive" car alarm systems (see S.Africa for what I mean )

sorry to hear about this mikkk, you sound like a top bloke who dont deserve it..

the peacock story made me laugh soz...

Then bang em up for 20 years...

Very sorry to see that mess. It does shake you up, last time I had it happen I was constantly looking over my shoulder in paranoia incase they'd gieven up and just wait for me to come along with the keys!

I must iterate this fact, I've said it a number of times

DO NOT park your pride and joy at BIRMINGHAM AIRPORT, THE NEC, or DONNINGTON. They are ideal targets as the theives will know your car will be there for most of the day.

Not sure what their intention was as if it was a "pro" why break the windows They must have had some clue as they have got out the factory immboliser ECU as well as the 3rd party one. Eiether way to do that much "work" they must have really wanted to take the car. An organised pro would have just towed it and pretend it was his and had been broken into/broke down. They also like to carjack round here!

Likely stolen to strip or joyride/getaway car.

1 thing I noticed (and I don't like kicking people when they are down) ...did you use any form of Cat 3 rated mechanical security?? (Autolock 2000 / disc lock / Wheel clamp).

Soley relying on electronics to prevent the car being nicked is something I learnt not to do many many years ago (and that was for a poxy XR3). I find it bizarre that I see lots of scoobies parked without any CAT3 rated mechanical security. To me it seems like an invitation.

No, they reimbursed the £24 ... oh joy

Your mentioning additional physical security devices is also a good point, funnily enough I'd never even considered them. I supose having previous undesirable cars has placed me in a state of naivety when it comes to car security. Another thing to go hunting for when I get her back

You guys have any recommendations for such devices?? Any advice appreciated.

Bloody hell they left a right old mess there. Youve taken the whole incident quite lightly.......if it had been me I would have to have taken few months of work sick leave.

Glad to hear it being sorted through insurance anyway.

I'm suprised they did! Just a thought, in this blame culture we have...suerly by re-imbursing you they are admitting liability that your car was not adequately protecting in their car park?

Just a thought...nothing more

With security I was the same, used to have an alarm and immobilser and thought nothing more. But after suffering attempted thefts where the immobiliser did it's job your left picking up the pieces

Personally I have (in addition to CAT1 alarm immobilser) an Autolock 2000. It does the job...it's not the best, but another thing they have to overcome before even thinking of starting the engine. Disclocks are also good, but heavy and just as cumbersome. Bar-type locks are no good (stoplock, security bars, gearstick locks etc). An enclosed disc type lock is that is thatcham CAT3 rated are the ones to go for

I also use a wheelclamp when I leave the car for long periods in areas I know to be dodgy. It's overkill IMO and a pain, but again, one more thing to overcome.

The things we have to do these days eh?

i know that sucks and i do feel for you but still, would you give a knife to a serial killer? Then why leave your sti in a carpark ?

Still least the insurance is quality. I think if i get my car stolen i want it done by proffesionals aka gone in 60 seconds, not by some punks who cause such a mess

To go to these measures causing so much damage & still not taking it away makes no sense.

How far would this scum go to lift your motor should you be in it ?

Feel for you matey

Don't do it m8, my view is that I'll buy what I want and enjoy it.
Lets not let the thieving scum win.

My m8 had his mini nicked years ago, a 1000cc clubman worth about £200. So the scum will nick anything to get their next hit.

I would also recommend a Disklok. Further to that, I used one of these wheel clamps on my Scoob. Nearly 3 years of being parked on the street in Central London and never touched. Both the Disklok and clamp became such routine that I fitted/removed them very quickly.

Wow, the CTR forum (where I normally reside) has posted a link to this story. Really feel for you fella - makes you want to cry. Personally, I love the Sti to bits and will be looking at one for my next motor after I am Vteced out!

Anyway mate, sorry to intrude on your forum but I hope it all works out for you and the chav scum barstewards die horribly, mowed down by an Sti preferably

Theft happens loads, but to damage a motor for the hell of it sucks.

Best wishes from us lot over there anyway.

...and come to think of it where's my rear drivers side window??

Ah, it's all over the floor. I see...

The morning after (I didn't get back into Bristol until 2am) I surveyed the damage in the early morning light...

Why is my glovebox on the back seat?? And what the f*ck did they do to my mats?!?! (Turns out the little darlings after failing to swipe the car kindly used industrial cleaning fluid in an attempt to remove finger prints, or out of sheer spite )

Ah ... now I understand (also found one of the immobiliser units in a rear footwell)

What's left of the alarm ECU and wiring loom on the passenger side...

Would you believe the thieving c*nts swiped the prodrive gear stick ****?? Mind you they left the £300 Road Angel GPS unit on the dashboard )

How to start a car the hard way... well, there goes the wiring loom on the drivers side, and the steering lock

A close-up of the steering colunm hack 'n slash job...

Believe it or not I could still get the key in that mess to fire up what was left of the electrics ... oh joy

Stolen:
1x Gear stick **** £50
1x Sunglasses £140

Repair bill: circa £4,000

Insurance company have been excellent (Bell Direct), contacted them on the Monday, by Wednesday the repairs were authorised. Now I'm just waiting on a new wiring loom, looks as if there are none in the country at the moment

Still ... when all is said and done, it could have been worse. They could have jumped me for the keys

Next time I go to Birmingham airport I'll probably travel by train, coach or private limo ... it'll be cheaper than the premium hike and inconvenience caused
My heart goes out to you, I had exactly the same thing happen to me at East Mids airport massive damage to the interior, one of the little ****s cut himself and left blood all over the car, Police caught them on DNA, and guess what they were from Birmingham, part of a big ring, still got nothing back and the repair bill was in excess of £5k

Sorry to hear it, but to keep things in perspective, most airport car parks are covered by CCTV and are pretty safe, i've parked the following succession of cars at Stansted short term car park every day whilst commuting over the last seven years without a problem:

Pug 306 GTI6
Pug 206 GTI
Pug 205 GTI 1.9
Impreza Turbo
Impreza WRX
Impreza STI Type UK
Seat Leon Cupra
Vauxhall VX220 Turbo
Seat Leon Cupra R
Pug 306 Rallye
VW Golf R32

Obviously though if you are hidden from a camera you are stacking the odds against you

I had a dipol gearlock fitted at my local dealer, looks pretty hard to get round cos it locks the car in reverse.

I had a Barrier Deadlock on my old car - the previous model to the Dipol - and it seemed a pretty sturdy bit of kit. I had the car 4 1/2 years and it didn't get nicked, so I guess that's a recommendation of sorts.

All that makes me think twice about fitting it to a new car is the thought of cases like this, where the standard immobiliser has clearly stopped the car being stolen - it seems that most cars are nicked with the keys these days, so another lockable device doesn't really help. Anti-hijack seems like a better option.

Of course, there's a very good argument that you can't have too much security, but there's a law of diminishing returns and every device you fit is one you have to operate every single time you use the car.
