I have genuine fear of water [hydrophobia/aquaphobia] I can't go on a boat/ship, can't look down into the water from a bridge and the thought of my head going under water petrifies me. I can't watch underwater scenes on any TV programme either, totally freaks me out. I got persuaded once to go on the Log Flume at Alton Towers NEVER again!!

Spiders have same affect on me as well. Ugh!!

So just because you do not have a phobia of spiders anyone else who does is a woman? That's a bit unfair!

Is that a phobia? Sounds more like obsessive compulsive disorder rather than a fear!

LOL! Never heard of that before. Its weird how it was more important to him to not be seen eating than the embarrassment of being seen to have to sit in a different room to eat! The human mind is a funny old thing.

Snakes. Not that i've ever seen one loose in the wild, but that's gotta be my worst nightmare, especially if i knew it was a bit of a vicious bugger. The film "Venom" had a lot to do with that, seeing the Black Mamba swinging from Susan George's (i think) neck. Yeeuughhh!!!

Out of interest have you ever tried tackling it head on by holding one? Its not unusual for most people to fear a venomous snake if they came across one in the wild, I would - that's just common sense! If you knew the snake was safe would you still be averse to going near it?

ajm - no i haven't. That wouldn't help though - cos i know they wouldn't let me hold one that was truly dangerous. It's not the thought of what they feel like, it's the fear that i'll get bitten and die a slow painful death!! In the wild, i wouldn't know a harmless one from a Taipan, so i wouldn't do anything other than run, fast!!

That's what I was trying to get at. Fearing a venomous snake in a situation where it really could harm you is not really a "phobia" in the sense of an irrational fear, it is a rational fear that I think most people could identify with!

Having said that, I would want to get a good look at it before making the decision to leg it, but then I am an avid Irwin fan!

Hope none of you get put into Room 101 then! The Orwell one that is.

There are some snakes that can move faster than a human can run Telboy, so you need a bit of anticipation!
