Not good Anyone who has owned a 205 GTI will know all about lift off oversteer. It takes a lot of courage to stay on the power in those situations though. You've got to say though - driving like that round a blind corner on a public road really is asking for trouble. The scooter driver was amazingly lucky. Don't get the cheering thing ether??

I have watched that clip about 20 times and every time i just expect him to flick the back end back round rally-style and every time i see it i just get totally shocked when it ends up in a mess.
He was driving like a total dick though. Hopefully he will learn his lesson

He could have easily pulled out of that slide with a little power rather than staying on the brake like he did. It wasn't too fast at all - if it was he'd have gone straight on! Of course, had he done the right thing and gone on the power he'd have straightened the pug up but would have gone head first into the scooter killing both riders.
This is one instance where we are actually glad the guy was a crap driver because he saved two lives........bizzarly!

So in other words, it WAS too fast for the road as either a) he crashes into scooter or b) into wall as he did. IF nothing was coming the other way then it could be argued that it wasn't too fast but since you can't see round the corner that argument goes out the window.

I said it wasn't too fast for the corner in that he could have easily sorted out what was (by my saxo's standards ) very mild lift-off oversteer. In fact he could have taken it a bit faster and still made it round the corner without leaving the road.
However, there is no doubt whatsoever that he was going too fast for the conditions especially given that he was on the wrong side of the road at points and the corner was blind!

No defense to what he/she has done. However, whats not to say the driver did have the abilty to catch it, but stuck it in the hedge to save the scooter boys life?
Still you dance with the devil and all that.

That is a very fair point kammy and I did consider that however I feel on closer examination of the video this is a driver that didn't know what he/she was doing!

Why didn't he bang on the ABS?
The thing to do in this situation is to gas it, it goes completely against the grain and it's not easy to do! You just need the fronts wheels pointing in the right direction and then they'll drag the back end round the bend.
Or better still, don't be a **** in front of loads of your mates holding video cameras

Just watched this, and two things occur. One, it's somewhere that they drive on the right, the driver will be on the left hand side of the car, the one that ends up in the air not on the ground, so they should be fine, hopefully they didn't have a passenger. Two, if they had made quick, accurate steering corrections as soon as they felt it let go and got on the gas they would have easily saved it without crossing onto the other side of the road and into the path of the scooter rider. There is no way it was a case of either saving it or hitting the scooter. I suspect that keeping going as they were without lifting might even have been enough.
It does all stem from entering the corner too fast for the driver's abilities though, not the car's, that car could have been driven round that corner that fast quite neatly on one side of the road by someone with some skill in front wheel drive cars.
Not a smart way to behave on the road though.
