late seventies - mid eighties SL.
it should hold its value nicely, still looks a classic (in a ewing sort of way) and will be mega reliable.

Never seen a 'Comete' before but thats a wicked looking car (especially for 50 yrs old) I love it - spend some cash to get it back on the road and enjoy driving something truly unique.

How about one of these?
87k miles on it, and it still looks quite good Don't believe too many rumours about TVRs being unreliable - this one has always been a daily driver. The "down side" is that to keep it reliable, it has to be driven.
There's a few issues with those nasty speed 6 engines though. A problem seemingly similar in nature to the Scoob engine big ends... Oh well, guess I won't be upgrading to a Tuscan yet...

Are these, ferrari's and astons actually in your price bracket then? Always thought a good one was gonna cost more than £35000. Agree with the others, unless she's into cars then the attraction would quickly wear off, not so with the XK8/R, nice cars and easy to live with everyday.

Maybe not quite the Ferrari, but Astons are out there at between 30 and 35k, mother well into cars, the whole theme of it would have to be something 'special' nothing normal, I hate normality!!

No! Change the limit to lets say £700,000 and ill have a Ferrari Enzo for £650,000
and the other £50,000 ill would give to charity - Children In Need. Im being serious here. thats what i would do. what am i going to do with 50K other than waste it on stupid DVDs, Music and random stuff, the needie need it more than i do.

am I too late for my 2p?
I have heard a few people saying that boxters have a problem with engines(needing new ones), one being a specialist, and I would try to stay away from anything pre 1980, as you may end up spending more money than you want to when finding parts, XKR and DB7's a good idea though, but if it was my choice, 328, or 3.2 mondial cab

Not too late by a long shot mate, the astons looking like the way to go, the prices of the v12's are apparently in freefall, which in turn means the 6's are getting cheaper, so a good'un for 30 loks do-able! The only thing i'm not kean on is the dash, the top of the dash is always the same colour of the seats, can look naff!!
Porcshes are out, cheap!

993 turbo? No way are they cheap!
Funny you should mention the 456gt- friends dad had one in black- absolutely stunning.
And surprisingly practical for a (fast) ferrari. Also affordable

Dont know about her driving experiance but I expect 300bhp/ton super car is going to be a handful for her.
I suggest a Boxter S Tip. Good investment and the auto box makes it easy to control the power delivery in a reliable fashon... no silly turbos or big capacity engines.
However if she is not worried about the depreciation then I would get the DB7 (auto).
