but to start cancelling runs out in case non-scoobs turn up is a little odd.
Its not that other cars may turn up, its the way it is being 'sold' on cruise and other forums, that they have had specific invites to come along, and that it is a Jap Performance Meet/Cruise and not a run for Charity

Some people are under the illusion that we are having a Police Escort (again bandied about on other forums) this again is clearly not the case

It is primarily the tone of some of the postings on the other forums, that is making us all a bit cautious about continuing with this run

Frank has put a tremendous amount of effort in, convincing the Police & B/Pool Tourism board that this is a good thing

No to cancel for me.

A list of 'invited' cars from the scoobynet threads could be used if we are stewarded at the entrance to the car park - not sure on feasability (ie who would steward) but its a thought.
Its like chinese whispers on this tinterweb - I cant believe how quickly how word spreads and the reality of the event becomes distorted. Hopefully you'll push on Frank, but like Sonic, I'll go with whatever decision you take.
Thanks
Paul

I hope this ain't cancelled, I have been looking forward to it for ages. However if it does turn into a cruise i think it will all go to a ball of chalk and i know that the local police will not hesitate to cancel the event(my neighbour is a traffic cop in Blackpool). I agree with redwrx there was no invite to any other clubs or organisations only for Scobbies, I dont think they would like us to turn up to their meet's uninvited.

So please other club's let us get on with it, and as mentioned in previous threads organise your own trip to the light's.

I understand whats happening, but on that sxoc thread that was posted I was expecting to read people planning on doing burnouts, drag races and allsorts, but it seemed OK to me.

What I never understand though is the "permission" thing. Why do we need permission to drive through the illuminations??? Its a public road, and we all pay for the right to use it. Blackpool is always full of cruisers and/or car clubs anyway.

Last year there was an awesome trail of modded PT Cruisers going through the lights.

So if they cancel the event, and I turn up with the missus on my own in a lightly modded Pug saloon I will be banned from Blackpool, even though I am there on my own, not with any club etc???

You cant really cancel something that is not on private land. If Frank wants to cancel it then thats fine, but everyone else can just turn up anyway surely???

I'm not trying to throw spanners in the works etc, I just cant understand this permission/cancellation malarky. Beside which, the lights are always so busy that no-one will be able to go mad.

It's not permission to drive through the lights, it's permission to drive through as a convoy.

Spoke to you yesterday on phone Frank, only just got on to have a look.

It is a shame it has come to this but with the vast scale of the event now it was not going to be possible keeping it quiet from others and other forums finding out etc etc.

Good points have been raised on the car park policing aspect. I dont want to do sound negative but if we were to "police" the car park outrselves the last thing we need is someone not in a scooby being an a**hole about not being let in to the car park resulting in a conflict of any sort which is exactly what the police would clean up with.

I would say continue to let the event happen but and fully agree with you not taking an responsibility in anyones actions, this really goes without saying.
Also in agreeance with the poll too to see ehat others think.

I think it will be the minority that will spoil this event for the like minded people amongst us if it does come to that.

Fingers crossed anyway and lets hope it deosnt come to this.

Also we technically havent got any firm permission to drive through the lights as a convoy, the police have only said they will "try and get us in as one group"

So is it illegal these days to drive in a group of cars that all bear the same manufacturers marque?

Thats news to me, never had to get Police permission before when out on a run. Didnt realise non Scoob drivers all drove like arseholes either

Of course it is not illegal to "drive in a group of cars that all bear the same manufacturers marpue", that is a silly statement.

No one is saying that all non scoob drivers drive like ars*****s, the point people are trying to make is that the event was organised by redwrx as a Subaru meeting for charity and not a cruise for everyone to attend.

A cruise has the stigma that you will get all the young boy racers doing dounuts and the like, if redwrx had asked Halfords and the local police to hold a cruise in their car park i think i know what the answer would be.

Other cars will turn upto this event but i hope they will respect that we are doing this for charity and dont spoil it by attracting the attention of the police for the wrong reasons.

Not sure on the exact legalities, but anymore than 6 cars of the same marque in convoy and it can potentially be asking for trouble from the feds

There have been stories in the past of a high number of cars of the same marque out on runs, having problems with the law

Hence Frank asking the Police for assistance (not permission so to speak), as if we have their backing then it makes for a better night

Just to make it clear, I have the utmost respect for Frank organising such an event, good on him, just a shame that it may have to be cancelled just as a "precaution".

I suppose its just me getting mad at this farcical place we live called the UK.

Sonic - what kind of trouble could we get in?

If we got 100 Subarus/Pugs/Evos whatever, together and drove all around the UK at 1mph under every speed limit, drove sensibly, and never once caused a problem incident or even annoyance, what could they possibly arrest us all for?

Final point, then I'll leave well alone

So this will be a meeting for people owning Subaru's, not for Scoobynet members in general? As a longstanding non-subaru owning (thanks to the carjackers stopping me having one) Scoobynet member that leaves me in limbo.

Im not sure on the trouble, as im not sure if there are actually any laws being broken, if everyone keeps to the speed limit, and behaves etc etc

Arrest is too strong a word, as you dont get arrested for motoring offences (usually )

there have been rumours in the past that if you are in a convoy of more than 10-12 cars then you should let the police know

Ive also heard stories of one person crashing and all people in the convoy being charged with racing

Possibly urban myths, old wives tales etc

It can do NO harm at all to inform the Police that possibly 100 Subarus are descending upon Blackpool to raise money for charity, and asking for help getting on to the lights run itself (we had a lot of problems last year doing this)

My beileve is that the Blackpool Run was primarily for Subaru's but open to anyone on Scoobynet, who wishes to come along

Anyway is this not a Subaru Site

I'm inclined to say don't cancel it and do some 'damage limitation' by posting on the other forums where it's been falsely advertised as a free-for-all.

If it looks like a lot of other car clubs and cruisers are definitely going to turn up then I'd be up for suggested alternative. I few weeks ago I tried to go shopping here in Southport and found myself in the middle of a cruise, it was absolute mayhem. It obviously wasn't organised and the participants went to the beach only to find the tide was right in, so they all decided to monopolise the car park at a nearby shopping centre. It's a shame the police were sensible, I'd have let them all on the beach and then walked to the end of the pier to watch the cars float by.

Saturday afternoon, a busy shopping centre with lots of adults and children about, a hundred or so Corsas/Saxos/Novas/Cavaliers completely blocking the car park. About a dozen were driving around it like complete t**ts, wheelspinning, revving poxy engines, trying to see whose stereo was the loudest . . . I personally wouldn't want these ****** turning up at Blackpool. The majority were well behaved, but it only takes a few people to ruin it for everybody else.

At this stage my vote's a yes for the BBO to go ahead. Let's make it clear this is a ScoobyNet event and go and raise some money for charity. And if you need a bouncer for car park duty put my name down Frank. LOL!

And there would be a shiny P1 sat outside right now, but it would only last a week before some ****** threatened me and mine with a knife to take it from me

The words "garage" and "affordable house" dont exist below £300k where I live unfortunately, unless you want to live near the scum (who would then steal it from the garage anyway).

Dream Weaver, i feel you have very valid points but the reality of what the Police perceive as a Subaru drive through will be just that "A Subaru drive through" and not an all cars en mass convoy / cruise.

The fact is the Police have gave specific instructions to frank and frank has liased closely with the Police to make it happen.............. end of.

I dont care much for whats legal and what isn't, i think franks just calling it as he sees it. It will only take for one *** in a blinged up Saxo with neons to ruin it for everyone and i think that with limiting the event to Scoobs only will help to prevent all and sundry turning up.

Whilst on the subject, i thought it was illegal to have a convoy etc of any sort longer than 3 cars long as it can cause accidents................ but then what do i know I think the Police have been very helpful and i for one wouldn't want to ruin it for frank.

Keep it Frank mate, the only thing i can suggest is when leaving Halfords have someone filter out any non-scoobs. Once on the move, i cant see a many cars getting between us.

Dream Weaver, i'm in no way having a pop at you, i just want the thing to go well. So much effort and planning has gone on for this not to happen and run smoothly

Been speaking to Frank today on the Phone, and we think the best idea is to give everyone on the night some printed paper (desgin not finished yet) to be placed somewhere in the windscreen, so that we can be identified as part of the Blackpool Big One

Anyone who doesnt have this displayed in their windscreen, will be considered an individual and from the Police point of view also 'nowt to do with our run'

Why not increase the amount of sponsorship money needed per car to say 10pound/per car. this in turn should weed out the undesirables . although this may deter some genuine people (and lost monies) the extra money payed should cover this.

I think it would be a good idea to have some sort of identification on th dash as well.

but i say no aswell to canx, but as everyone else has said if needs be it needs to be cancelled so be it
