I think it should go ahead, went through the lights last night and there was a VW (Beatles and Vans) convoy going through (nowhere near the number for the BBO though). Pulled up to have a look at the Halfords car park and there was a cruise/gathering going on, on Halfords car park. On the way out there was a panda car pulling on - just stopped and stared at me whilst I was waiting for the lights to go green, they then drove on and pulled another car that was on its way out too. Dont think the Police will tolerate this at all if it turns into a cruise and you cant blame them. I was also under the impression that it could cause trouble with the Police with cars in a convoy.
Think the idea of some sort of ID in the car is a good one - had them in the IOM for Scoobyfest.
As to other marques who are members of Scoobynet coming I think it is ok as long as redwrx gives them permission via pm or email and supplies them with the same ID as the scoobies have on the night.

I was planning on coming up, as long as I can get some time off work the next week, however I have to be VERY VERY careful about things that I do, because I can not afford to have any marks against me.
As it stands at the moment, if I get the time off work then I might well still come up to see you all drive through, but I would not be happy to drive my car through the lights just on the off chance that something happened and I got associated with it.

Frank phoned me earlier and asked me to post that;
As long as the majority still wants to go ahead with this event, then *in his own words* It's still all systems go
So, up to now, this is still going ahead and not getting cancelled.
He asked me to put the police thing streight too, they're helping filter us through the traffic, so we stay together as a group, THAT IS ALL !

Steve, the webmaster, over at SXOC has kindly given me posting privilidges, and posted for me as well. Check out the new thread over there: here
It sounds like we could get a few spectators anyway, as it will be an awesome site as we pull out of Halfords for the convoy down the prom. Lets make sure someone goes over with a bucket for the charity donation
As I said to the SXOC chaps, if you know of anywhere else this is posted, please refer them to this thread, and explain it is a scooby only event for charity.
Hopefully this has been nipped in the bud, and we'll only see a few non scoobs on the night.
See you all there
chris.

on the sticker in the window idea, how about a pm to everyone who is on the main list, with a design they have to print out and attach on the night? something you could only get if your name was down and you had a pm box?
would that work?
chris.

it looks like we might have got away with it for now but what about the other sites we dont no about such as the sites that dont specify you have a certain car just the ones that organise cruises for all cars i.e cruisenorthwest. just a thought i might be wrong (hopefully). scott

work is in progress to have some stickers made up to be handed out on the night, either at the meet points, or at Halfords prior to departure

If you sort out some design, i can print out a load, probably enough for everyone. Then we can hand them out in the car park? Give me a shout or send the design to me@m0rf.co.uk and ill sort it out

Sticker move good idea, just one question why do we need stickers when we all know what a subaru looks like. You could limit the number of stickers and printed designs by only handing these sort of passes to members of scoobynet that have previously notified that they are attending in a Non Subaru vehicle. Like a BBO GUEST PASS. Also think that those passes should be handed out before Halfords and also maybe if we are going to police the entry into the carpark then it would need to be in place early to stop the Cruisers getting in there first and blocking the Halfords Carpark. Is there any plans after the drive through like a meet back into the Halfords carpark.
Just my thoughts.

DW - Our kid, who is both scoobynet meet goer, non scoob owner & plod has checked the ins & out's of Convoys & reckons there is a problem with un-notified groups of more than 6. As said, if one of the 'group' speeds & gets done you're all potentially up for racing charges.
Sure you must remember MTR's Northern meets 1-9 where eventually he was marshalling everyone into groups of 6 or less. IIRC @ NM6 we spent ages chatting with the traffic cop who was keeping a very close eye on it all but was cool as long as we didn't all go off together (90+ scoobs etc that time)!!
I know if I'd organised this & it was getting misadvertised all over the place then I would be bricking it as the 'leader' will obviously get the flak if it morphs into a full on cruise with all that entails.
I hope it goes ahead for the sake of a) the cause b) frank's work & c) the scoobynet friendly meet ethic but I personally wanted to go to a scooby related event & have no inclination to ever attend a cruise (despite being regularly branded a chav on this very bbs).

But surely that would mean that motorway traffic breaks the law when more than 6 cars - UK laws dont you love how the Police can bend them about to suit.
Anyways, I would love to come to this being so close and having lots of dosh to give to charity but not having a Scoob means I cant.

It doesn't mean you can't come, just need to have your SN name displayed so you're seen as part of the group, not as part of a racer boy cruise group

Agree with DK1
Dream Weaver you could even come and sit in our car with your copacious wallet, full of dosh for charity and i'm sure the nominated charity will be very grateful

So, are we now saying that it's ok for non scoobynet scooby owners to attend, as long as they have a sticker?
If so, NWMark would like to come along in his S3.
Where are they going to go in the convoy, at the back?

After a torturous week, of 5 hour midnight mountain walks and rowing across lake windermere in the dark,
Ive managed to return, with the minimum level of cuts and bruises ....
And, yep, thanQ Donna, it was my birthday on thursday ...a lovely way to spend your 40th, stuck on the side of a mountain...

Ive managed to read thru all the responses, and there have certainly been some interesting comments and ideas, and occasionally differing views... But nevertheless, the overriding feeling is that we should keep the BBO - ON.
The support for this is quite something.
Just to put the record straight, the Police 'will not' be escorting us thru the lights ...what they have agreed to, is to helping us get into the lights queue, from the south end, rather than having to try and get potentially up to 100 cars thru Blackpool to the north end of the lights.... the Police have also agreed to leave us alone, to enjoy our evening so long as there are no reported problems.
It would appear having spoken to the manager of Halfords, there are regular car meets (cruises) at the same venue, but no of them have the approval of the land owners.. What i have got is an approval by Halfords for the members of scoobynet (or invited guests), to meet on their carparks with their permission, but they insisted that they would not give thier approval unless the Police were ok with it.
Also, i did not want people travelling potentially for 3 hours or more, only to get moved on ......., anbd then have the same drive home, so, the Police have also seen that we are taking a mature approach to driver safety..
As commented in the post, the Police can stop what they deem to be convoys .... however as with all meets, if we drive safely and within the boundries of the law, and they see what we are doing is for charity, then hopefully they will respect what we have set out to do..........'Raise money for charity'.
Blackpool Police, and rightly so , because of other car meets raised the concern of this being a 'cruise'.... or turned into a cruise, and, thanks to those who have posted it up elsewhere, the impression that for me was coming over was that this is a 'jap performance car' meet...and from other sites that it would be a 'cruise'................. it took me a long time and several phones calls to convince the Police that this would not be a cruise, and that donuts etc, and would be totally frowned upon by our attendees.....
As for who's invited, well, this was put up 'on here' by me, for members of scoobynet, and invited friends ( i have invited my brother, who is a non- scoobynet non-scoob driver) ....it was not intended that this would be posted over other sites....... almost as a 'free for all' ..that the police have agreed too.
As i have previously stated, although i can not take personal accountability for peoples behaviour, the Police and the 'Blackpool tourism' have my 'work' and mobile numbers, and also my car reg'........and i am sure sure that if things do go wrong, then they will be on the fone to me... so i think you can see why i have levelled my concern ...but if anybody else wishes to share that responsibility, as organiser, then please forward me 'your' details, so that i can be relieved of the worry, that posting this elsewhere has caused.
Anyways, in summary.......
Its organised for us to have a great night out,
It will hopefully raise a load of money for charity
It will promote the good side of car meets...
its called *the BLACKPOOL BIG ONE*
and its ON.

I have now turned from Newbie to Regular !!
As for ownership and events, I am still a Newbie.
I am looking forward to the BBO, but not having attended anything like this before, I am concerned about the drive to Blackpool. I don't want to be involved in a flat out race to get there for these reasons :-
I will have my family in the car,
I don't want to see if my car is faster than yours (only when I am solo )
I have got Zero points on my Licence at last. and would like to keep it that way.
I would hate to see Sccobies branded as bad motorists on a charity raising event.
I am probably being over sensitive about my concerns, but I hope that you can understand.
Big-G
P.S. thanks redwrx for your efforts. let's 'Do It Right' on the night.

Stickers
I am driving up from Kent for this and am not sure about the sticker business. Could someone tell me if I have to put something on my Terzo to be allowed to join the convoy.
Thanks
Andy.
