Oh yeah - they'll try to sell you new pads at the 20k service - get better ones cheaper elsewhere and pay a local garage £20 to fit them - it's a straight forward job if you can't do it yourself.

Cheers for your info Wrxmania....

Not sure what will happen as my car is 2 years old now but has no where near 20k wear & tear etc.... its not yet in double figures... so will they only do the 10 k service?
your advise is welcome!

Fluid degrades including Brake Fluid so it is as well getting it changed - I think it was only £3 odds plus VAT and the brake service lubricates and greases pins etc so it is worth getting done as maintenance. Just get the 20k service done - check the price first though to make sure they do ot rip you off. My car had only done 16,000 miles when I put it in for its 20k service:

1000 mile service - pre 1000 miles
Oil Change - Fully synthetic Oil (slightly thinner stuff) @ 4600 miles
10,000 mile service @ Subaru - 7800 miles
Oil Change - Castrol RS fully synthetic oil proper @ 12,500
20,000 mile service @ Subaru - 16,500 miles approx.

I want my car to last so I am not scrimping too much on servicing, but as you can see from my previous prices,l servicing in Central Scotland is not too expensive.

Also, when they are doing the brake service - ask them to put 5.1 brake fluid in instead of the usual 4.1 - they will know it is better. I have since changed mine (with Pagid RS 4.2.1 pads and Goodridge stainless steell hoses).

Hope that helps?

Brian

I fitted some front tyres for a nice chap I met at Subaru track day recently, this was his third set of tyres (ie originals plus one other set by Kwik-fit *******), his third set of brake pads and he has had an engine done under warranty. The car is a UK STi, how many miles and how old? Oh and by the way, I got my WRX in june so I don't give a damn how much servicing is as it's free for the first 36000/ 3years.

Erm 30000 or 3 years on WRX - 36000 is on non turbo which has 12000 intervals (sorry got my pedantic head on today )

firstly how does this cost so much
secondly surely you dont need new pads on the 1st service
im booked in for my 1st service next week and was expecting a £250 bill
tell me i dont need to worry
if i do then theres an sti 8 ppp up for sale
fuel consumptions bad enough!!!!
Dealer servicing does seem to add up. My last service at tileys in bristol was around the £900 mark. That included new discs, a 10k service, and 4 new tyres. But the tyres were £450 the service itself was £450 - not cheap... But think yourself lucky before that my TVR service was £1500 for a 30k internval.. ouch...!!!! For the performance the service costs of scooby ownership is not a great deal. My comapny audi 1.9tdi has its major 60 (cambelt) service recently.. that was a stupid £700 - plain stupid..!!!
