My brother is 17, and has been driving for the last 4 years. He used to be a little **** driving other peoples cars (maybe even one of yours)!!

But now drives he's own, so I would not take the ****.

Especially when no one in my Town up to the age of about 22 can keep up with him.

**** he is better driver than me, so don't start bringing age into it.

He has been spanking Sierra's, Capri's etc for years now so he is a pretty confident driver.

Also you lot take the ****, you pay around 2K insurance and say that paying 4K at my age is silly.

Whereas 4K would get me a banger FWD like a SAXO, **** that!!!!

too right! Just because your brother is confident, doesnt mean he's a good driver. bet he aint smooth with the controls either! who needs a clutch!!!

You know what I would do.

£8000.

Take £1000 of this and buy a "normal" car. 1.8 N Reg Ford Escort or something like that, cheap (ish) insurance £1000 I reckon, then....

With your remaining £6k, go and buy a decent Westfield for £5k. (Ztec with 130bhp or similar will pi$$ all over a subaru and will be tail out fun all the way)

Spend about £600 - £700 on insurance (not kidding) and put the other £300 you have left into 3 airfield days.

This is what I did when i was 19. Got myself a Caterham Superlight 1600. 133bhp, and had a Mondeo TD as my everyday car. Cost me £800 to insure the Caterham for the first year, thats a car that does 0-60 faster than an STI PPP....

Look lets just say that he is a very "talented" driver for he's age.

And I don't see driving a non-turbo scooby at 18 as that much of a shock. For christ sake they do about 130MPH which you can do in a crappy RST or old banger.

I just want a car that handles well and that I am proud of and that I like.

........................

It would be a shock if I wanted a a P1 or 22B etc. But I am being realistic a non turbo scoob will be fine.

PS also im more likely to take care of a nice car, a banger will get treated like one.

Non-Turbo?

Ah, makes more sense now - apologies for some of my earlier comments.

Still gonna be difficult to donut tho'

Yeah I know it would be hard to donut. It won't be like im gonna donut it all the time at the price of atleast £300 (??) for new tyres, then you got the clutch etc.

I just want a nice scoob to drive and maybe try out some gravel or wet car park action.

I want something that I will want to keep for a couple of years, and will be worth doing work to.

PS TRUST ME!!!! I know how long things last when you spank a car, usually 1 day! So I ain't gonna go melt the clutch the first time I drive it.

And they are still quoting you 4k for insurance? Besides, u'll trouble doing a donut in a turbo, let alone a non-turbo. I just dont get where you are coming from.

Ok, OK can we just leave the donut talk for a minute.

Yes they quoted me 4k for a non-turbo, which ain't to bad I have had quoted up to 7K.

For some reason it was 10K for a 300ZX non-Turbo.

Mate, i think the point people are trying to get across is you are gonna bepaying extremely high insurance for a fairly slow car.

getting a loan for you insurance is not a good idea as mentioned. your still be paying off your first years insurance when your 22!!!??

how will you afford the next 2 years insurance, another 2 loans? the premium will come down a fair bit but not loads. Still be paying 3k then 2k based on your first quote.

power sliding at your age is only gonna end up with you having a £8k loan with nothing to show for it.

As for the comment saying 'write it off so my scoobs price goes up' i expect you were joking, but this only pushes OUR premiums up aswell!

still think its a troll though....

Too expensive m8, its not worth it...buy something you can learn to drive in and still afford to run. Its often a lot more fun to drive 'standard' cars cause you can take them to the limit of thier handliong abilities at sustantially lower speeds which teaches you to drive and is LOADS of fun...

Can you streach to a Focus? Don't buy a zetec, just a normal 1.8 LX...no driver aids, just fantasic chassis, communicative steering and fantastic brakes (sorry don't mean to sound like a car ad). Brilliant fun; you can get the back end to step out with lift off over steer if you want to get the back end moving and they are cheap to run.

Have you looked in to getting a Ford Capri (Crappie) Nice and cheap and there RWD. That's what I had for my first car. The 1.6 laser is group 5 or 6 insurance. I kept it a year and upgraded to a Impreza Sport 2.0. Now I'm in a Turbo.

Was not my fault mate!!

Was my first bike, and it was ****ing rapid, i have never been in a car that has ever pulled that hard. The front wheel would hover inches above the ground up to 5th lol.

Anyways, it needed a rebuild a few weeks after I bought it so I got a new piston etc, jets, filter spent like over £400 onit.

Ride it a few times and it was running really dodgy, I went to turn round on it, pulled away and it just died, I kicked the starter and it had no compression,

The conrod went and the piston was drilling the head!!

The only thing that suprised me is that it broke at **** all revs.

Anyway lesson learnt, don't spend laods of dosh on a crapper.

It is better to pay more for a bike or car that is nice and will need less work.

It was 700 quid with Tescos or something like that and I past in 2000. Or you could try and get it on a classic car policy.
Yeah there good cars. What you can do is get the rear axle off a 2.8 special and put it on the 1.6 as the 2.8s had a LSD and you can donut until your hearts content (or the car blows up). I use to be able to hang the back out on a wet road no problem. But be warned the handling can be a bit unpredictable.
