Manual wind too.
Automatic is the way forward surely. Much more accurate than any of that cheepo microelectronic stuff.

I bought a Breitling from Duty Free in Geneva last month (as I was working in Switz) saving about £600 - £700 against the UK Duty Free price of £3000. It's worth getting a Cheesy Jet day return for £50 if you can make that sort of saving.

Yoza.. did you lose £600 on selling the Rolex ExplorerII ? Thought they held their value better than most (not that I know anything about watches!). It's the watch I was going to recommend in this thread over the 3 shortlisted choices.. The ExplorerII is my "dream watch" as I'm a sucker for all things Steve Mcqueen-related!

Yoza,

How are you getting on with your Chase-Durer, any good ? Must have had it a year or so now. I'm starting to look at them again myself.

Another site of general interest is: http://www.chronomaster.co.uk/. Some nice toys there, especialyl the N.B. Yäeger

Cheers

Ian

Hello Ian, yes I remember now, it was all your fault.

Seriously though, I wear the Chase-Durer FCX daily, I only take it off to put on something " better " for a special occasion.

It had a new bank of batteries last month, other than that its one of my top five watch purchases.

No scratches, no hic-ups, 100% reliable, it gets me up each working morning, and it doesnt have shoulder to strap spring bars, it has heavy screwed in bars, so it hasnt left my wrist under 'pressured situations'. Which is more than I can say for the Submariner I lost.

Greg, yes I did lose £625 on the Explorer II, never worn.
It was bought under the premise that if I bought it from a certain dealers they would "fast- track" me up the waiting list for a Daytona, a guaranteed PX was written against the ExplorerII on the Daytona, but the week after the deal a Daytona was sourced, so the deal was not required. But the dealers where not interested in taking it back, and not too pleased with the cancelled order, but hey, **** happens.

I think if you want to make money, or at least get your money back on a main stream model Rolex, you need to keep it in its box as it came from the jewellers and forget about it for 100 years or so, then one of your children can sell it and buy some 'Astramax' for their spaceship....

Please tell more? I've heard about this - I've also heard comments like "if that happens you'll need a new wrist".

I tend to put mine on a NATO strap for tough work, so it needs both pins to go to lose it, but I'm curious how yours went?

I lost a Submariner in a fracas outside a pub.

Any violent shock or flexing of the wrist can destroy a springbar, they are quite delicate, Ive also sheared one on an Omega SeaMaster GMT, all I did was fall over and put my hands down to break my fall and the watch fell off, luckily it stayed inside my jacket sleave.

I dont think both springbars went, only one needs to snap or collapse then the watch falls off your wrist.

You dont feel it at the time, until its too late, then the watch has been found by some lucky blighter........

Yoza - would you mind giving me a shout re: your Daytona deal?

I'll get the pics of my IWC and Panerai over to you next week when I get my digital camera back

I wouldn't advise anybody to buy an Omega Seamaster - not very good watches IMHO.

to be fair .....the one good thing about my seamaster is its glass face. I wear it 100% of the time and it has been bashed to hell and back.....not a mark on it.!

Jimbo,three good choices there.
The tag is a more classic design, the zenith a mixture of a sports watch and dress watch, the breitling is a pure sports watch.
Ask yourself what it is about yourself you are trying to say.

As for not getting a new one, rubbish.if its a 30th b/day present go to an authorised dealer and push him/her for a discount, around 20% should be attainable with some effort.

i wear a breitling colt gmt daily.

Got it mail order goldsmiths york.basically rang round every goldsmiths (list on the website) until one would sell it at the price I wanted.
