Ok....I don't believe it, but, with all your help, I've done it, albeit without using Bluetooth or Nokia software!

1 Used Media player v 10 to record CDs as MP3 files
2 Made a folder into which I clicked and dragged selected tracks
3 Dragged all tracks onto MMC via card reader

Job done!

And, I can now have any track I want as ringtone!!!

It's excellent, really pleased I persevered.

Thanks again to everybody!

I enquired about upgrading my 6310 for a 6230 today (on orange) and they want 130 quid for it, and no offer of trade-in!

My 6230 arrived yesterday. Ordered it direct from Orange website. Was free on contract or £29.99 if I wanted to keep my old number.

Been with Orange since the good old days when their customer service was amazing (1997)
I just ordered a new phone and contract via the website and when it arrived I phoned them up to put my old phone onto PAYG as a spare. They're sending me out a new sim card for my old phone.

I've been with them since before the French destroyed the customer service too!

Was it a whole new contract then? In the orange shop they say they are only giving the phones away to new customers/contracts, existing customers on contract have to pay a fortune for the upgrade (cost gets less with more expensive tariffs)

I've a good mind to cancel mine and then start a new one!

read what i put and do it..... as I've said if you know how to play the game you can get a better deal than a new contract. you also get to have the same number this way.

oops, missed your post... I'll give it a go!

p.s. What happens if they just say "ok, bye then!"?

Asking for the PAC code does not mean you have to leave but it indicates you wish to take your number to your new network. This is when you will almost certainly be transfered to somebody who has the power to do you a deal. make sure you tell them you only wish to leave because you can get X deal elsewhere (am idea is to find a good deal to throw at them). if they do say 'bye' then as far as I see you have lost nothing. either start a new contract with another network and use the PAC number to transfer you number FOC or start a new contract with orange.

hope that helps.

Mine was on a new contract / new number.
I've found in the past that the worse place to buy is from an Orange shop!
Used other online retailers before, but this time opted to use the Orange website to purchase. Ordered it at the weekend and it arrived yesterday (Tuesday).
The phone is free on £25 per month contracts and above.

You are probably right there. Normally I would try online first, but when I decide to get something I tend to want it immediately!

I actually caused quite a scene in the shop 2 years ago when I upgraded to a 6310 because the snotty little sales gimp made the mistake of saying:

"hold on sir, I need to phone through your details to Orange to see if you are allowed an upgrade"

Red rag to bull to say the least!!!

Hi Mattsan.

In mediaplayer, click on rip, then tools, then options. This brings up a multi menu pack! Click on rip music again and choose the MP3 format from the drop down list for format required. The rest should be easy.....but come back if you're not sure.....everyone helped me!

Adrian

The conversion kit arrived this morning. Not Nokia OEM but good quality all the same. Installation looks like a piece of pi$$ - I'll elt you know how it performs when the phone arrives.

Cheers
