Might have to concede that one, although I could trump you with "The Capri Perana is the one to have"

Question

i thought the race was quality!

god knows why the boat was even there though.

was suprised at how un-impressive the times were though???

get blokes on their 1000 GSX-R's talking about 7 sec 1/4miles etc... and that bike didnt even have a starter motor it was so light!????

and 9 seconds for the F1 car??must of been the clutch surely???

was expecting something around 6/7 seconds????

Talking is as near as they get, low 10's is what Gixxer thou's do, unless they use nitrous and an extended swing arm.

The Capri 280 "Brooklands". The last type of Capri available. After nearly twenty years of production Ford produced a final limited edition run of cars that were designed to mark the passing of the Capri with style. Originally badged as the "Capri 500" as 500 were planned for the production the name was changed to "Capri 280" and the production ran to 1038 examples.

Whether it was a tribute to Henry Fords "you can have any colour you like as long as it is black" the Capri 280 was only available in Brooklands green - and the name of the paint has stuck with the car - most often refered to as a Brooklands than a Capri 280. Essentially this Capri was identical to the 2.8 Injection Special but had larger 15 inch ally wheels (of the same design as the 2.8i Special) and the interior was trimmed in full raven black leather with red piping for the seats.

The "one to have" would be the RS3100. iIt used an overbored Essex 3 litre unit producing148 bhp (although the racing engines were bored to 3421cc and produced around 415 bhp). The road going homologation RS3100's shared many fetures with the RS2600's; brakes, suspension, wheels bumpers, and headlights were all the same. The dummy side vents and interior were standard 3000GXL equipment but the 130mph speedometer, flat dish RS steering wheel, and AVO paint scheme were unique to the RS3100, as was an optional limmted slip differential.

Production ran from December 1973 to January 1974 and although 1000 cars were planned only 248 vehicles left the factory. These were launched into a country suffering from on oil crisis ; not the best market for a Capri with the largest engine ! At £2450 the RS3100 was nearly £800 more than a 3000E, and as the sales of the RS3100 were overhadowed by the launch of the MkII Capri in early 1974 in is no wonder that this car is one of the rarest going !

See HERE for as much information as you are ever likely to need!!!

I had a 1985 2.8i Special in white with a grey half leather interior. It was a minter and I thoroughly enjoyed it!! Wish I still had it actually (as a toy)

OK getting an GP bike would help make the race interesting, but how about getting a half decent boat? 70mph top end! Put an inshore Forula 1 catemaran on the job, it might have given decent acount of boats (~140mph on flat water, and no "traction" problems off the line). Admittedly, F1 boats aren't the same now they're 2 litres as the good old 3.5s used to be. Of course, a cynical person might suggest that it had to be a Honda powered boat, and honda don't do fast boats

The Perana beats that with 260hp and is probably rarer
