>aside< if you have the DCCD , does that STILL kill having ABS?? [last time I looked it was 1999 and the choice of having ABS OR a DCCD in Sti v STi type R (not both)]

Wink

Ok try to buy a new STi, then get it painted a different colour, change the colour of the interior add a set of Prodrive PFF7 wheels, add DCCD then get Prodrive to install a special aggressive ECU and PPP kit also Prodrive suspension while they are at it. Then get Subaru to add three years warranty, then tell Subaru you want it to be a limited edition and after all that tell your insurance you only want to pay the same as the standard STi8 you had before....I think the WR1's worth every penny...

Ok you don't want a WR1 get a STi05 and get it PPP'd just be happy but don't knock it till you've tried it!!!

go drive one and make your own mind up

Can't think of other things JDM has over WR1.

Oh, small matter of saving about £4k on JDM vs WR1. So who needs a warranty? It only lasts 3 years anyway. If the JDM blows up you can use the £4k to put towards a 2.5 conversion at Powerstation and have a type25.

Has my MY03 WRX STi JDM 16 months now and in terms of warranty claims....errr none touch wood. Not even had to replace any bulbs yet (he says looking back at his MY00 classic with the sidelights).

p.s. Until IM start providing a good spec as JDM cars then I will always be buying JDM scoobs.

Who needs a warranty anyway????
I for one do a cast iron one which is why I pick my WR1 up today!!!

Arron,

"Who needs a warranty anyway????

If that was everybody's feeling then the UK car has got no advantages over a JDM whatsoever that I can see, so why buy it?

Hiya,

Answer: if it's what you want and you can afford it, then go for it mate!

I'd worry about 2 or 3 owner examples in that short space of time. This type of performance car can attract idiots who know full well that they won't be able to keep it long term, so they buy it, thrash it to bits in the short term, don't adhere to the servicing requirements and then just hand them back..

It's worth baring in mind that everyone said the P1 was overpriced relative to the JDM cars when they were launched, there were also quite a few left on the forecourt after the bugeye series was released. Many scoffed that the dealers wouldn't be able to shift them and would be glad to see the back of them etc.... Now look at the premium and respect they command.

Best

Having just read through the previous posts it's reassuring to read so much b0ll0x from so many that may have never sat in a WR1 but most likely have never driven the car.

Gangstas WR1 is a quick car and were it not for his untimely accident I would have driven it around Castle Combe but thats another story

The Wr1 is a unique car no doubt about it. If its exclusivity, powerful performance, cast iron warranty, reasonable insurance and a bargain for the mods that have been put on. Now put that package together and you have a real value for money vehicle.IMHO

For me the WR1 is good but I would like to compare it against a T25 and a JDM STi.
I know straight away with the last two cars my insurance will rocket. Which with protected no claims (and age isnt a factor) a bit harsh to say the least.

Theres also no warranty which for some of you isnt an issue but I've had to have a new clutch and a few other minor bits done (thanks Wilsons/IM) which would have hit my wallet. Performance cars have a nasty habit of going bang no matter what people say.

Performance (although I havnt driven a JDM or a T25) I doubt is vastly different accross all three cars.

So IM/ProDrive, if you can produce a JDM spec STi with PPP, lowered ProDrive Suspension, 18" alloys (not gold) twin scroll turbos, additional front mounted intercooler, leather interior, defi guages to include oil temp/pressure, turbo pressure and water temps to be on sale in 18mths time I'm going to be bang up the front of the queue.

I do so want my cake and to eat it.

lol,

so 2.5 isnt vastly different from 2.0?

you are on another planet.

exclusivity? all subarus are exclusive. The only exclusivity you have is amongst subaru owners. If they are your second hand market I suppose they are worth something.

Personally I would go with an 05sti as it comes in a decent colour at least.

The WR1 is nice, but I still believe like the P1 it was a succesful marketing ploy to **** a lot of cars which subaru couldn't sell.

Why else would they produce it in that colour? to commemorate a victory over good taste?

The wr1 is a great car, but it is no greater than all other subarus which were all performance bargains.

To assume that it is special because it was a special edition is nonsense. It might be special now, but will be nothing to write home about when the next special edition comes out.

it is already going to be lagging behind a ppp equipped 05 sti in terms of track times.

Value wise there is no way I would jump on a sinking ship.

It seems there is a lot of jealousy, from non WR1 owners on this thread. Why else would they slate someone elses choice in car?

If you don't like them, whether because of the colour, BHP, not the latest model etc, why are you reading this thread and bothering to contribute absolutely nothing?!

I'd love a WR1, if anyone doesn't like theirs I'll do a swap for a WRX 03 PPP?

I have absolutely no problems with the WR1, superb car.
at the moment, wr1oc is a fledgling site (opinion!) and therefore there isnt the contrasting mix of personalities on there.
coupled with the fact that there is a certain comaraderie (sp.) with everyone ganging up on you guys here.
hence, I made the observation its a bit sickly sweet with hugs and kisses and singing nekkid together in the fields of rye

the wr1 is not that different from a 04 sti 15bhp,dccd colour and that is it,the p1 was much different to uk models at the time 60bhp 3 door lots of prodrive bits-spoiler/seats all of which you could not get unless you bought an import, the wr1 could have been much better-it still is a good car but i think it should have been a cross between the p1 and the wr1 plus from crossroads although next year's special edition should be interesting.
it says it all when subaru dealers are unable to sell them despite there only being 500 of them!!

At the time the P1 was announced STI5/6's were around £30k at Park Lane...and they didn't seem that overpriced. When they were finally launched though the grey importers cut their margin and sold them ard £25k... still the P1 was stonking compared to any other UK car.
The same goes for the WR1, witout doubt it was the greatest of UK scoobs when launched...things move on though, and that doesn't make the WR1 any less of a car, but makes it less of a no-brainer at £30k, since the '05 PPP and 18" wheels will cost around the same.
If you like the colour and want 18" wheels it's still a pretty good buy for a UK car...no doubt about it, and was a great buy 5 months ago
Ultimately I want the support of the entire Subaru UK network behind me and any warranty claims I might have..so would always want a UK car. Mostly. Hello Adam.

I don't care if someone doesn't like the car/colur whatever but its comments like these that imply WR1 owners have been 'tricked' into making their purchase that rub me the wrong way! Do you think we're thick or something ? or weren't aware of type 25s, JDMs etc before making our choice ?

my mate thinks his fiesta is special ... and who am I to tell him it isn't ? you don't need 550bhp to be 'special'

so is it special or not ? anyway, if a 'special' edition (or any other car) comes along that grabs me like the WR1 did then I might 'upgrade'

I've lost more than the value of a new WR1 in less than a year on the stock market so 10 grand depreciation over a couple of years won't bother me.

Supercue; the JDM cars and Type 25 we supply do have a warranty (all be it not through Subaru). Also the insurance quotes most people are getting are the same, or with with £150 of the UK STI with PPP One well known insurance company lists the Type 25 and it is rated the same as the STI PPP.

As I was about to order a 04 STI the WR1 came out, I can't remember the numbers but I was going for PPP, 18" wheels and suspension upgrade resulting in a price very similar to the WR1, so the choice was very easy, more power, DCCD, special colour, better residual. I have no doubt it was the best decision.

......Sumo.

If it was L&V, i'm too young for them to cover otherwise the Type 25 would have been on my short list .

Do you know how the Forester STi compares in insurance costs? We're looking at either the UK 2.5 or the STi as a 2nd car.
