Had the GTB on rolling road today

Yeah you do learn to drive round/with it.
IMO makes a nice split personality setup.
I don't always want the full surge, under 4k I can have lazy power, then if needs be, commit to full on
Each to their own I suppose.
But for the money, no other wagon comes close
AJ,
Got any pics of your 'bling bling machine'

Agreed, just takes a bit of getting used to. I bought one as I wanted something less manic than my STi3 for the winter. Find driving the Legacy quite relaxing compared to the STi3. Quite impressed by the fuel consumption after the STi
GTB = Reliability, comfort, pace and space - maybe I'm getting old
Regards the Snow tyres - I'll need to find out which front brakes I have.

Mark,
A certain web-mag may do a story on it soon, pics and all Just need to get it on a dyno (it hit 315ps last time out, but #s were wonky due to mid-range wheel spin = lotsa bend on offer ) and find a few days with good weather (something rare here recently).
There'll be under bonnet stuff too - so should be a fair bit to talk about
Kevin, Rich - you sum it up pretty well It is the whole package that does it IMHO. Bit of Jeckyl and Hyde to it with the comfy bits, then a nice dollop of fun for those moments when things need "doing" Most Impreza fans will always find the Legacy turbos hard to get a handle on, for many reasons - each to his own I say

AJ,
Keep us all informed, make a nice interesting read
Should hopefully find out today whether my disc'c are to be re-placed under warrenty, 12k and warped
Report on the JR panel filter, 12k so far.
Normal dirt build up on the filter, which was easily dusted off.
Intake side, perfectly clean.
This is a lightly oil filter, and there's no traces of any oil on the AFM/ housing or inlet pipe.
Certainly promotes more noise from the BOV when driving compare to a std filter.
While airbox is out might make a bellmouth for the AFM.

Yep AJ, keep us up to date on this - piccies are all important...
Anyone know a good source of spares for the GTB's?
My passenger side fog/turning light lens is cracked and thought I might replace if they're easy enough to get a hold of

Try Grade A Subaru, there's also a couple of other scoob specialists.
Otherwise it's Japan www.irs.co.jp
Both mine are cracked

As we are takling TT type things.
Would it cause undue stress on the engine to change the turbos for the next "size up" ?
If they currently run IHI VF 32 and 33 turbo's, at their limits
Could you put the secondary on in place of the primary and then put the next size up where the secondary should go ?
If they are both from the same manufacturer you would like to think that bolt holes and feeds were in the same place !!!

Sure, some have done it. But response is going to suffer. I am getting a whole lot more oomph (and bettter response) on std gear now. Good tuners and good mods can support it.
But if you are happier to try to cram more air through bits that are compromising perf at std levels, that is most certainly the owner's perogative. IME the IC, and exhaust from the centre pipe back are the #1 impediment. Then down pipes and turbo wastegate, and header/up pipe (mostly in that order ).
Gents, I'll be sure to keep y'all up to date on events
Cheers

VoD is now a plateau - but as I said I've got to get it on a rolling road. I've just fitted some new S-03s, and grip is mucho better now. Hopefully she'll stay on the rollers this time
First though, I've got to go put the wind up some imprevos in a hillclimb on Sunday

How have you changed your IC and did you need to remap or could the stock map cope (I've got a rev D with I think the 4.5 map)
Regards Obi

Hi Obi,
I've got a B rev m8, and the fueling was all over the joint after adding the free flowing bits. With a bit of tuning the power just came falilng out Simply brill
We had a D rev with the same mods - his car's fueling also went south for the winter prior to adding fuel, and adjusting timing (the D runs leaner than my B, looked OK early on, but once on serious boost it went very lean almost immediately). Once cured it went in the direction of 300ps+ quite quickly

I've changed my exhaust to a constant 75mm bore with no internal flanges and replaced the centre cat with a 200 cell sports cat. Obvious improvement across the range and the VOD is now barely there under normal acceleration and just a moments pause with the foot 'floored'. How did you change your IC. Did you use an STi unit or something else and what are the differences?

Got an AVO (the real AVO from Oz) TMIC - the thing is rather large, and very free flowing Proper bar and plate intercooler, and not a radiator style thingo...
Designed for the B4 too, so no stuffing around. Seriously great response along with much cleaner running ("look ma', no det").
I do hope you got some computer tuning to adjust for the flow though, if you get a pink or 3 at high outputs, no telling what could happen...
Cheers

How much did it cost. I've got a couple of friends who live in Oz so I wonder if I can get one sent as a 'gift'.

Yes, I've had it tuned and it'll be going back for a few adjustments fairly soon.
