The thing i dont like is they are sent in there, chance's are some will be killed.
Then on returning home they will probably be told the BlackWatch are to be disbanded. (if thats the right word)

whats the fuss in the papers, media etc.
The reason the whole issue of this particular troop movement became more news-worthy than any other in Iraq, was because the British troops were going to be under US command.

But not the sort of choice of command I would make! I think the reason for the publicity is more likely to be the extra danger they will be in because of the US attitude towards the Iraqi civilians and our troops will be associated with all that as well.
We may well be more susceptible to terrorist attacks and hostage taking because of it too!

Get ready for more british civilians being kidnapped.
Tony Blair has got us in this mess and is struggling to get us out.....unfortunately there is a huge price to pay in lives and this is the start of it.

We know there is always an agenda behind these things. They say is 'purely an operational decision' so we know for sure that it's *not* that. What really annoys me about this is the fact that Hoon is going to sack these guys after he has put them in harms way for soley *political* reasons. Bah!! to the New Labour scumbags I say....

Of course it isn't an operational decision!
What valid operational reason is there to move 800 UK infantry into an area already teeming with US troops?
@Chins - I see that you were never exactly in the thick of the action....
I bet your family would of been extremely worried if you had been! Especially if there had been political motivations...

I even had to carry out peace keeping duties - the Bennys are a dangerous lot
Also, I would say Simon Weston would have something to say about not being in danger on a ship - and he was the lucky one. We lost a lot of sailors in the Falklands War. Furthermore, I also saw some matelots in and around Basra and Um Qasr, so they don't all get to stay on ship.
PS: I know Simon Weston was a Guardsman, but he was on a ship when injured (the Sir Galahad).

Not jumping to conclusions - just going by what you had said earlier in thread...
Anyway, fair play to you. I spent two weeks on an Island-class, and that very nearly sent me loopy!
BTW Bennys?

You could say that it's a political move by Bush, but the numbers involved will hardly win him any votes.
Personally I think it's more likely that the majority of the US soldiers don't have the same skills as our marines. They have their own special forces too but I think the gist is that these are going to be redeployed and ours are needed to cover.
I bet if you asked the actuall soldiers if they want the move, most would say yes.Soldiers have a different mindset to civilians and accept it's part of the job.I'd even go as far to say that's one of the reasons they stay in it.
One of my best mates is in the marines and I know he'd be itching to go.He's already missed Afghanistan through injury and was very disappointed.
