are there any dealers (with website) that sell second hand jdm ones (the only one i know of is litchfields which i thought just did new)

No need to buy new, save your self a packet and buy mine.
Its a June 03 STi with PPP and 18" Prodrive wheels 7,000 on the clock and is better than new. Its Concours, a second car that sits in the garage nearly all the time under its tailored cover (which would be included). Hardly ever been out in the rain. Cost just short of 29, would accept 20 for a quick sale. Its worth looking at.

Ive got to agree with the original post.
I have one m8 who has a new STIPPP and another who owns a mint RB5.
The PPP is more progressive but the RB5 always feels faster and more fun!
Whilst it might be true that if you look at the speedo on both cars the PPP will be edging it surely its all about how the car feels and the fun you have in it that counts.
VFM the RB5 wins hands down as well seeing as he only payed 11k for it.
Both great cars but i prefer the "raw" feel of the older ones although who knows perhaps the 05 STI will win me over.

Not convinced? Look at the dyno printouts on the dyno section, look at the power the Impreza's make at the wheels. My car makes 260+ HP at the rear wheels and weighs 1560 kilos without passengers. Do the maths from there.

My mate now owns my old '97 UK Turbo.
It was dyno'd when I had it at 264bhp.
I still drive it from time to time, the last being 2 days ago.
But it feels so slow now, when compared to my JDM STi.
That's been dyno'd at 331bhp.
Before I bought the JDM, I tried the std 260 STi and the PPP UK Models and wasn't too impressed with the standard model, but the PPP felt pretty good, until I tried a JDM model.
My 30bhp more, 40kg less weight and shorter gearing really does make a big difference.
Passing PPP's, P1's or even FQ300's with ease at various Knockhill track days, is what you call the big grin factor.

i have an 8 with PPP + prodrive springs + geom by powerstation + F1s + decent pads.
it works perfectly ... but all this crap about performance and overtaking is IMHO mostly irrellevant ... learn how to drive it. straight line stuff and easy sweeping bends are standard stuff ... it's about maximising bends and braking.
Not having a scoob before ... it's taken me 18 months to get close to 100% out of it on roads - now i can use it 100% in wet and dry with absolute confidence - there's a big difference between driving it and thinking the car will sort it verses making sure you know when to do what - you understand the dynamics and how it reacts - balance on braking - when to left-foot, when to apply power, how to feel the grip, tyre adhesion etc ...
it's not an ipod

Thats the problem i have had a old clasic and that is what i am comparing it to, i have said it was quick, very nice inside, where the old classic was a bit basic and noisey, the new sti missed x for me (and i am not sure what x is).
anyway have seen a couple of jap ones i am going to ring up, and check out.

Anyone who claims to be getting 100% out of a scooby on the roads is a dick IMHO....
1) how bloody fast would that be? How mad? Prison sentance soon
2) Define 100%... i bet there are only a few people in the country who could back that claim up with driving....
My 10ps worth - STI8 PPP is an awesome bit of kit.... maybe you drove a bad example?

Take an EVO VIII out for a test drive and you'll be impressed - there are 2nd hand FQ300s for very good money now - have a look on the MLR..

FQ300's run exactly the same as a Nice Sti8-with PPP... nothing in it... they are no quicker in a drag...
As for it being slow... err... mine feels damn quick... and i had it some time!

Anyway...enough banter...no, a little bit more.
I remember carrying 4 passengers in my mk3 supra, (270 kilos extra) it didn't feel or actually go that fast. I realised that this is how slow most Imprezas are, (uk classics, P1s, wrx's, and even import STIs). When you work out the rwhp/weight of my car to the awhp/weight of various stock and modded Imprezas.
And I was right. 2 weeks later, had 3 passengers in the car (210 kilos extra) while doing 60 mph some black import STI (they make 190+ hp at the wheels standard) tried to pass with his "super invincible in the twisties, real world, a-to-b, rallye type-R weapon", he worked the gears like a mad man but kept falling back after each shift.
This is a classic STI, that has at best "equal" performance to my supra, which when it is loaded with passengers it does feel so damn slow that it worries me. Gawd knows how disapointingly slow the new porkier STI must be.

Most were slower, the ones that were faster only took just pipped me at the line admittedly going about 5-10mph quicker... but they certainly don't just wave goodby...Exactly how much does a Supra tip the scales then????

What blx! lol!
My MY03 JDM STi with only a panel filter makes 255bhp@wheels, it weighs in 210kg lighter than your lardy supra, so which one is quicker? do the math
(oh and 331lbs of torque )

The UK STI's makes no where near 255 at the wheels. 210 at best stock. That amount of power delivered on 1470 kilos of car is around the same power/weight as my car with 3-4 adult passengers.

That's off the line traction, not acceleration. 2 different things.

Nope my car weighs in at 1350kg, it has 280ps and 290lbs of torque as standard (ie its not a uk one )
I have no need to make anything up, you say your car has 260bhp@wheels, yours is 210kg heavier than mine, with or without ice, im still 190kg lighter minimum, still 255bhp@wheels, still have a ptw of 230bhp per tonne (245lbs of torque per tonne also )
Your car is a fat lardy thing that is well outclassed by an STi

All well documented look at the RWYB times at elvington... around the 13.4 13.3* mark and with 400+ easy bhp... The Sti left them fro dead over they first 60ft... they caught me at the end... I do have a soft spot for supra's but you need monster power to get good qtr times...
The 450+ cars did have terminals of 107-112 against my 99&100's
