a cryptic clue wouldn't go amiss though would it. Shameful things have happend to my car at a certain dealer when they forgot to Seal round the petrol tank and I ended up with petrol UNDER the backseat!!!!!!!

Oh and then they decieded to charge me for the pertol to fill it back up to test it!!!

Hmm ive NEVER used them again and never would.

Silly really. Pull the other one or is that a secret clue?

Never heard the bells of york minster

Mods, a related question...
The JD Power survey publishes information on customer satisfaction, including what customers perceptions are of the dealers. If one quotes the JD Power survey and says that manufacturer X has a bad reputation for customer service from it's dealers, does Scoobynet will have a problem with that?

"But surely that's bullying" - yep. Nasty old world we live in isn't it? Just because it isn't fair, doesn't mean it won't happen. In fact it has on several occassions.

BiJ - if the facts are published elsewhere, then it certainly makes it easier for us. However, there have also been cases of sites and other media being sued for repeating alegations. It's a very complex area and none of us are lawyers, so we tend to be cautious with such issues.

Sticky - There's 120 dealers, how about listing the 119 that you are happy with? Ooops sorry only jesting....

The fear of being sued is now being blown up out of all proportion and is now far worse than the risk of actually being sued. Ridiculous. The US doctor who has refused to treat lawyers because of the way frivoulous lawsuits are bankrupting the US medical profession has got it right. Don't give in. If we all stand up to this luncay then we can fight it. Giving up like this is giving in.

What if someone posted on a US hosted forum, criticising a UK dealer, then someone on SN posts - without a link - saying to have a look the i-Club (for instance) forums, someone's slagging a UK dealer off?

You aren't directly linking, and the allegations/libel/whatever aren't being repeated.

Think you'd be OK with that, but as I said before, we'd prefer to avoid the situation arising in the first place. Chelspeed is right - there is a lot of fear and bullying surrounding the issue. But the fact remains that *if* someone complains about a post and backs this up with lawyers letters etc, then Simon and Shaun have to investigate it. Ignoring the problem is not an option.

& it says a lot about a 'said' company if they'd rather use their solicitor than actually deal with a customers complaint!

Yet the ongoing thread about PAR gears is given free rein?
There's quite a few derogatory and circumstantial yet unfounded comments on the quality of goods in that, but mods don't seem to be reading it
or
Is it that that this thread is discussing organisations closer to home who pay attention to this site?
Surely SN isn't under the IM thumb?
Alternatively, mods are not singing from the same hymnsheet?

Imagine you had your own reputable company but you had this customer that, even after bending over backwards to help them, still insisted on criticising your company on a public website which is frequented by your customer base. I suspect you wouldn't be too happy about it.

Unfortunately, even companies with a very poor reputation will still threaten to sue, because there are always people who haven't heard all the bad press. A public bbs like SN reaches far too big an audience to be ignored when any criticism is occuring. It sucks, but it is a reality of the modern society we live in.

Cool

scoobynet

roll over and give up at the first sign of confrontation..

FACT!!!!

i made some observations about a dealers i visited..

post was removed for being "potentially" libelous..

if i wanted to make up crap and lies, id be a super muppet..

the fact remains the dealer in questions premises, attitude and forecourt didnt impress, to the point i wont go back

if it had been watchdog however,, would the sn press machine be jumping up and down screaming libel??

no they,d prpbaly be banging on on how they support this substandard dealer being named and shamed..

its about time sn stood up for its members and took a positive stance.

oops... forgot,, pcsnet !!!

i'm with butty i think the mods tend to mod what they want rather than stick to a set guideline. if it's a sponsor then they get all the chances under the sun to explain. some one else and no chance at all. their needs to be set guidelines that every mod should go by which is fair to all not just the sponsors.

I have had several PM's from folks (Hello to you all ) asking if it's XYZ dealer, because they have had similar experiences. All but one have been wrong. This problem seems to be more widespread than I imagined.

And before anyone starts criticising me for using PM's to spread the word, I have not replied to ANY of the ones I have received, either to tell people they are right or wrong.

As things stand at the moment I was promised a call back yesterday (Thursday) morning by the sales manager. By close of business no call had been received. I am therefore looking for any recommendations of decent dealers a little closer to home in the Wakefield / Leeds / Sheffield / Donacster area.

Does anyone have any positive things to say about their chosen dealer?

Sumo, only one person has guessed right so far. Can't think who that might be

Maybe I'm unlucky then eh?
It's NOT the salesman (our mutual acquaintance), it's the total d1ck in service. (Sounds like Dick, if you know what I mean) and his attitude.

Cue flood of PM's to Mr Sumo...

is the EVO dealer a lot better ?, I ended up having a very big fall-out with my mitsi dealer, they had a list of *****-ups far longer. it cost them the sale of an EVO , so I guess we all have good and bad stories about dealers....sumo

Sorry mate. Of course, it could be me. Maybe I'm just an 'undesirable customer'. Must admit, a couple of times I've been there I've needed a shave.
...and I wasn't too happy when my car got nicked from their workshop
...and as for not tightening the gearbox drain plug (on two separate occasions)
...or not tightening those bolts that time, but they weren't THAT important, they only held the propshaft onto the car...

shall I continue?

Only ever had to use a 'bishi dealer once for a service.

Took a gleaming car in, and got some barely recognisable bird shoite covered mess back. Won't go there again!

Don't suppose you can recall the name of the MD at our mutual freind's? Not the manager of that particular branch, but the guy who personally hand-writes you the letter of thanks when you buy a car from them (nice touch). PM me if you can, 'cos I've got a really nice letter for him.

I personally think the whole thing is bollox , however, there are risks involved which the webmasters are not prepared to take. Its their BBS, so what they say goes.

If you post nothing but fact, its not libelous or defamatory. The problem is, however two fold.

1) How do we know its fact (given that Scoobynet is the publishing medium)?

2) Everone jumps on the bandwagon and starts slagging the dealer in question off, which generally becomes a potential libel issue.

The solution?

Either demonstrate to the publishing medium (scoobynet) that what you are posting is 100% factual, which is unlikely to be practical.

or simply post something like

"I have had experiences with XXX dealer which I find unnaceptable, if anyone wants details please email me" and keep the accusations off the BBS.

Like the polls are done on here and ratings I have seen on e-bay, can something similar be done on this BBS?

That way we all get to see who are the highly rates suppliers and the ones to be avoided. At the end of the day it will be say a % based on users overall satisfaction. If the likes of e-bay can do it why can't this BBS?

It would make a superb reference point in deciding whether or not to use a suppler.
