If anyone listened to his lame rap tunes now they'd laugh their heads off. He was as bad a young brother as Russ Abbot.

He is mid forties.
And yes, I would say in the main he is respected.
Look, he is on national radio twice a week, he is regularly in the US meeting rap's big names, his CD's top the charts regularly and he tours relentlessly.
Fair play to the guy.
As for Derek B, well what can I say. Thank god UK Hip Hop has improved.

I'll give him credit for introducing Hip-Hop to the masses here in the UK, but I still cringe when he opens his mouth.
Can't see him as a bad@ss DJ when he looks like Uri Geller

Question I have is this, do the rap fraternity really accept him, or do they think he's taking the pish? Regardless of whether he's been around the music for years, he does give the impression to the majority that he's a bit of a tit.

I'm sure there are other more hardcore DJs today but he still has a lot of cred amongst rap/hip hop fans.

He actually did get a cap popped in his *** some years ago when he was in his bad *** range rover at some traffic lights in somewhere like Kennington...Saaf London.
I don't what his father would say.....other than..."bless you my son".

actually he made the mistake of pissing off a yardie in a yardie pub.
so the yardie went and showed him who was the big dawg...
from what I read at the time on hiphop forums it was rumoured that westwood **** his pants and was lucky to escape with his life...
..obviously the yardie had been overdoing his crack/sensi and it affected his aim
parody- oh yes. HE knows it, we know it and he's the one laughing all the way to the bank..

Whilst he is totally over the top now Tim Westwood introduced me to some of my favourite tunes ever when he was on lwr such as "apache" by the incredible bongo band and "It's just begun" by jimmy Caster (my fav).At nine years old (I'm 32 now) he was the best radio dj by far.

I think he would sound more ridiculous in a studio full of 'Gangsta' Rappers from downtown LA, speaking in correct BBC language!
